Job Title: Junior Online Programmer (Contract)

Location: San Diego, CA (On-site)

PlayStation - San Diego Studio

Overview:

We have a great opportunity to join PlayStation Studios. We are seeking a Junior Online Programmer to assist with development and improvement of online systems and tools for the MLB The Show product line. After learning the current online architecture and systems, you will add online features to the game, extend or develop server-side systems and implement groundbreaking features. Your efforts will directly impact the next generation of The Show. If this is you, then you need to come play with us here in sunny San Diego.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Assist in the development and implementation of online features and services.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate backend services tailored to project needs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to online features, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Participate in code reviews, ensuring adherence to best practices and coding standards.
  • Assist in the documentation of technical processes and systems.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends relevant to online programming.
  • Collaborate with designers to turn ideas into concrete game features.



Qualifications:



  • Strong programming skills with C++.
  • Familiarity with C#.
  • An understanding of Internet communications and associated standard methodologies.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to write efficient, compact code for systems with limited resources.
  • Ability to design and implement modular and easily extensible solutions.
  • Awareness of networking fundamentals and protocols.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.



Nice-to-Have Skills:



  • Game industry experience is a plus.
  • Multi-platform development experience (*nix, Windows, gaming console).
  • Experience with distributed systems.
  • Experience with asynchronous message passing architectures.
  • Familiarity with MySQL or other RDBMS.
  • Familiarity with cryptography or TLS/SSL.
  • Knowledge of version control systems like Perforce.
  • Exposure to Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
  • Detailed baseball rules understanding.


Note: This position is a 12-month contract located on-site at San Diego Studio.
