Job Summary
  • Work within the development team to help define user interfaces, overall system layouts, product requirements, and cost objectives.
  • Participate in mechanical design efforts in the development of new laser systems and components.
  • Conduct thermal and mechanical modeling and conduct benchtop verification testing for water and air-cooled laser assemblies and sub-assemblies.
  • Apply DFX and other design principles to create manufacturing-friendly, cost-optimized solutions.
  • Plan and execute design verification test protocols including environmental and accelerated life testing.
  • Oversee and participate in the procurement and assembly of engineering and prototype builds
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external vendors to bring systems and components into production.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or comparable field of study.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and experience creating engineering drawings. GD&T experience preferred.
  • Understanding of the principles of heat transfer, thermal modeling, stress/strain behavior, materials selection and standard machining processes.
  • Ability to conduct engineering analyses including advanced materials selection, thermal and mechanical modeling, mechanical and /or optical tolerances, assembly and test equipment evaluation.
  • Candidate shall be highly organized and detail-oriented with clear and professional written and oral communication skills.
  • Candidate shall be self-motivated and able to work with minimal guidance in the areas of defining specifications and requirements, assuring customer needs are addressed, and delivering fully documented solutions.
  • Proven record of strong teamwork.
Exceptional candidates will have:
  • Experience with fiber or solid-state lasers
  • Experience with ANSYS, COMSOL, or other mechanical analysis software
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks

Starting pay depends on qualifications:
  • Mechanical Engineer I: $81,000 - $98,000 annually
  • Mechanical Engineer II: $90,000 - $115,000 annually
