Shifts available 7 days a week from 9 AM - 1 PM, 1 PM - 5 PM, & 5 PM- 9/10PM. Please indicateall shifts you are available for in your application.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

We are looking for proactive self-startervolunteers to support MSK's Urgent Care Center (UCC)! UCC volunteers must be confident quick learners, serving as an extension of the UCC staff working to support our patients seeking urgent care.

Volunteers in this role will...

  • Distribute and collect food menus.

  • Escort and transport patients to different floors, exam rooms, or via wheelchair as directed by staff.

  • Visit patient rooms to provide comfort items (blankets, water, magazines), non-clinical items (gowns, pillows), or friendly conversation.

  • Help patients set up MSK MyChart on their phones.

  • Assist with patient belongings by cataloguing, labeling, and organizing personal items.

  • Partner with Patient Representatives during busy times to enhance patient support.

  • Restock unit supplies (blanket warmers, water cups, etc.) and help prepare rooms for admissions.

  • Act as a patient advocate by helping maintain awareness of meals, tests, discharge status, and other updates (directing clinical questions to staff).

  • Help manage the flow of visitors in and out of the UCC waiting area to ensure a comfortable environment.

Core Skills:

  • Tech savvy - you will help patients download and access MSK MyChart on their phones

  • Take the initiative: proactively ask staff how you can help and work independentlyfrom there

  • Self-starter

  • Hospitality

Qualifications:

  • Must be 16 years old or older.

  • Willing to commit to a weekly 4-hour shift for a minimum of 6 months. Volunteers are expected to be dependable in attending their scheduled shifts.

  • If a former or current MSK patient, must be out of active treatment for at least one year.

Onboarding Requirements: takes 4 - 6 weeks on average

  • If selected, complete a virtual interview. The selection process is based on scheduling needs and applicant qualifications.

  • Reference check: 2-3 references

  • Background check & drug screen (*18 years and older)

  • Medical Clearance: COVID-19, flu and other immunizations are mandatory for volunteers, no exceptions. Medical Clearance is at the expense of the applicant.

If a candidate fails to follow up or complete the above requirements after 30 days, the application may be rejected.

Please note that the Volunteer Department does not oversee internships, educational programs, or shadowing opportunities. Our program provides long-term opportunities supporting patients and staff.
