Job Overview

The Cardiac Sonographer Associate performs routine clinical echocardiographic studies for congenital heart disease on patients ranging from neonatal to adult. The Cardiac Sonographer Associate will receive mentoring and training to obtain proficiency, competency, and knowledge in the field of pediatric echocardiography.

Salary Information: $34.78 to $52.17 *Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Eligible Incentives: $20,000 Sign-On Bonus + relocation assistance available for eligible candidates.

Qualifications
Education: Associates degree and/or graduate of a formal sonography program is required.
Certification(s):

  • Obtain the Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS); or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential within one year from the date of program graduation.
  • Pediatric Registry required within 18 months of hire:
  • BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs clinical echocardiographic (echo) studies, while supervised, on newborns to adults for congenital heart disease with a routine degree of difficulty.
  • Completes echocardiography studies strictly following departmental sequence and protocol.
  • Prepares preliminary summaries of the echocardiography findings for cardiologist interpretation providing documentation of observed echo findings.
  • Performs routine transthoracic echocardiograms on pediatric patients. May perform transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in the catheterization (cath) lab and operating room.
  • Under supervision, learns and performs special procedures as ordered to include, but not limited to, contrast and microbubble studies, transplants, Tissue Doppler imaging (TDI), and research echocardiograms.
  • Tracks and documents ongoing training and self-study for quality improvement; maintains a registry of credentials and certifications.
  • Maintains clean and safe practices, procedures, equipment, and work space in order to contribute to a healthy patient care environment.
  • Completes mandatory occupational meetings and training as outlined by hospital policies; attends all staff meetings with exception of holidays or patient scheduling conflicts.
  • Performs routine transthoracic echocardiograms on pediatric patients as needed; and assists with scheduling conflicts, changes, cancellations and workflow issues.
  • Creates and updates information binders, maintains commission checklists, manages room utilization and organization, reports equipment malfunctions and resolves equipment performance problems.
