About the Position:

The Eli Coleman Institute for Sexual and Gender Health (ISGH) in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota Medical School is seeking outstanding applicants for the position of Institute Director. The Director will also hold the Endowed Academic chair in Sexual Health. This is a tenured or tenure track position that we anticipate filling at the Associate Professor or Professor level.

The Director will provide leadership and carry out the vision, mission, and strategic goals of the Institute and the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. The Director will oversee the clinical, research, education, and public policy activities of ISGH.

ISGH is one of the largest clinical, teaching, and research institutions in the world specializing in gender and human sexuality. For over 50 years, ISGH has led the way nationally and internationally in crucial, often controversial, sexual issues and has worked with local, national, and international health agencies to advance public health policies promoting sexual health.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall leadership for ISGH faculty, learners, and staff while upholding core missions of ISGH - clinical care, research, scholarship, and advocacy.
  • Support advancement of clinical and research excellence at ISGH, within professional organizations, and within the field broadly.
  • Support mentorship of faculty and staff and development of future projects at ISGH related to gender and sexual health.
  • Serve on committees within ISGH, DFMCH, the Medical School, and/or beyond which are appropriate in relation to the role.
  • Collaborate with other researchers within the University of Minnesota, nationally, and internationally to promote research in key areas of sexuality.
  • Maintain a highly funded personal program of research commensurate with rank.
  • Disseminate research findings through national and international presentations and publications.
  • If a licensed clinician, provide individual, group, couple, and family psychotherapy or other relevant clinical care for gender and sexual health concerns.

This position is open at the Associate, or Full Professor level on the tenure-track or with tenure. Faculty rank and appointment will be commensurate with background and training, and will depend upon approval by the department Promotion and Tenure Committee and the Medical School.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree.
  • Evidence of leadership in the field of gender and/or sexuality.
  • Demonstrated potential for obtaining federal or other peer-reviewed funding.
  • An established track record of scholarly activity including publications and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in working in an academic health care setting.

The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota was created more than 50 years ago in response to a legislative mandate to train primary care physicians. Pay Range: $219,281; depending on education/qualifications/experience
