Job Overview
Under the direction of the SATOC Management or Superintendent, performs a wide range of carpentry tasks. Tasks include wood/metal wall framing, installation of sheetrock, finishing of sheetrock, installation of commercial doors and hardware, sanding and painting of sheetrock walls, insulation, painting and/or staining of millwork, installation of ceiling grid and tiles, and other general carpentry repair tasks. In addition, the Lead Carpenter will act as liaison between field personnel and management. The Lead Carpenter may be required to travel, at CCS expense, when necessary to perform Extended Enterprise projects. Pay Rate: $39.50/hourly Work Model: Onsite
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Performs maintenance, repairs, and new construction work on items such as foundations, concrete form work, interior walls, exterior walls, all types of exterior siding, all floor covering, sub-floors, catwalks, commercial doors/frames, windows, partitions, sheetrock hanging-finishing, painting, millwork installation, ceiling grid/tile installations and all other building components as necessary.
- Plans and lays out work from blueprints, drawings, models, and verbal and written instructions.
- Uses a variety of hand tools, portable power tools, and standard measuring instruments.
- Plans, organizes work, and meets all deadlines. Able to do a variety of tasks in any single day.
- Coordinates with other trade and warehouse personnel in the identification of proper and correct materials, parts assemblies, and requirements for a variety of requisitions necessary for the job/task.
- Respond to emergency site maintenance as required.
- Inspects and diagnoses problems to determine corrective repairs.
- Performs periodic stock inventories and prepares material requisitions for replacement items.
- Uses a variety of hand tools, portable power tools, and standard measuring instruments.
- Operates Government or company-owned motor vehicles and/or other equipment.
- Performs various lower classified duties such as (but not limited to) file maintenance, workspace cleanup, maintain warehouse space and telephone answering as required.
- Assists and supports other trade groups and/or department staff in daily operations.
- Adheres to the company safety and personnel policies and standard operating procedures.
- Ability to complete tasks utilizing a written schedule.
- Understands air quality standards and how to apply them.
- Ability to work alternate shifts as required.
- Performs a wide range of construction activities and other duties as assigned.
- Performs material takeoffs as required.
- Responsible to inventory required material and hardware stock and report to management.
- Performs construction layout utilizing the construction drawings.
- Responsible to assist other team members in understanding and performing construction tasks properly. This includes giving technical direction and assigning work tasks to other team members.
- Responsibility to report any Quality Control concerns to management.
- Responsible for tracking all department tools and keeping the tool storage area organized.
- Responsible for the project start up (regarding architectural discipline) and coordination procedures.
- Responsible to bring each project to a close utilizing punch-out procedure.
Accountable For:
- Timely and cost-effective performance of duties.
- Harmoniously working with other employees and customers.
- Working with the Construction Manager and/or Superintendent to outline work to be done, after which incumbent is expected to work independently. Guidelines include those established by the Construction Superintendent, manufacturer handbooks, National, State and Local Electric Code and engineering handbooks appropriate to the trade.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- High school graduate or equivalent GED.
- A minimum of Five (5) years of experience in the commercial carpentry trade performing tasks associated with the job summary and duties.
- Familiarity with basic mathematical functions is required.
- Experience using hand and power tools.
- General knowledge of air quality standards.
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards.
- Ability to perform assigned work tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
- U. S. Citizenship.
- Maintains the required level security clearance.
- Ability to pass pre-hire background and drug screen.
- Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and team lift 75.
Preferred:
- Broad based knowledge of woodworking techniques and construction methods.
- Extensive knowledge of commercial doors and windows.
- Possess the required level security clearance.
- Experience working in a government environment/facility.
