Primary Responsibilities




  • Assist in achieving the HDR regional transit agenda and priorities of national transit / transportation area.
  • Help drive growth of the transit market sector in the Philadelphia area.
  • Client management activities to ensure client satisfaction. Promotes and conducts branding of HDR to the industry and client community and serves as the face of HDR to project management staff of clients.
  • Effective project management and task management skills. Serves as a project director or project manager for key transit projects, or contributes in a support role as appropriate.
  • Successful Project Delivery
  • Work with Transit Market Sector Leader and other area managers to coordinate staffing and workload through project development to complete deliverables on schedule.
  • Provides technical expertise on a variety of transportation engineering projects to direct tasks, provide quality control reviews, and oversight as needed.
  • Assist clients in the day-to-day project management activities related to transit projects
  • Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets; negotiate additional service contracts and contract modifications with clients as needed
  • Manage engineering activities related to the design and construction or modification of transit infrastructure including Commuter Rail, Light Rail & Streetcar lines.
  • Coordinate with governmental and private agencies (stakeholders, cities, counties, DOT, utility companies, etc.) in the design and construction of transit projects as needed.
  • Participate in reviews and concept/design meetings with various clients and partners
  • Track the financial aspects of projects, and coordinate/adjust the work efforts with teams to ensure that work is completed within the parameters of the agreed-upon schedule
  • Attend client meetings and must have the ability to present a design approach for technical discussion
  • Implement QA/QC procedures
  • Perform other design/engineering tasks as assigned



Preferred Qualifications



  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team setting
  • Excellent oral and written communication and project management skills
  • Local candidates


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 10 years experience in railway engineering and managing complex multidisciplinary railway projects
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Proficient with MicroStation, OpenRail Designer/OpenRoads Designer, and/or AutoCAD and Civil3D
  • Skilled in technical writing, communicating and presenting to clients and the public
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team on railway projects
  • Should be familiar with water and wastewater treatment processes and technologies
  • Computer literate with MS Office (Word, Excel, Project)
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
