Job Description

The University of Missouri-Kansas City is looking for a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to play an essential role in supporting our senior leaders, managers, and employees. The HRBP serves as a strategic and trusted advisor, supports a welcoming and dynamic culture and workforce, and pursues continuous improvement through knowledge, collaboration, and leadership. Acting as an interface between the College, Schools, and Divisions (CSDs) and the Office of Human Resources, your role will be to provide high quality, business focused and strategic level advice, guidance, and support. As part of the Office of Human Resources, HRBPs can expect to work with an engaging, highly collaborative, and supportive team of HR professionals.

As an HRBP, you will serve a vital resource in the development and deploym ent of initiatives relative to workforce planning, recruiting and on-boarding, career development, performance management, employee relations, compensation and the creation of a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Understands goals, objectives, and priorities of assigned College, School, or Division; identifying how HR can support and help drive business and organizational goals.
  • Uses data to help identify areas for improvement and drive progress.
  • Supports unit workforce planning & design by evaluating both current and future staffing needs in coordination with leadership.
  • Assists and guides managers to finalize hiring needs and collaborates with recruiters to fill campus vacancies; may participate in the interviewing and negotiations process.
  • Drives assigned business unit accountability to provide engaging onboarding experiences to set employees up for success.
  • Oversee performance review/appraisal process, including training and communication with employees and managers.
  • Recommends training or professional development in consultation with specialists and facilitates succession planning discussions to build people pipeline.
  • Implements, communicates, and ensures compliance with Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, and government regulations to mitigate risk.
  • Advises managers on employee relations matters such as coaching employee behavior and discipline, consulting with senior management when appropriate and consulting with specialist when appropriate. Participates in disciplinary procedures and develops appropriate supporting documents.
  • Proactively identifies and creatively solves problems to address workplace conflict.
  • Collaborates as an inclusive and enthusiastic team player with the HR team and assigned CSDs to promote employee engagement and a positive work environment.
  • Partner with managers and Compensation and Classification Specialist to conduct job audits, compensation analysis and Position Classification Questionnaire (PCQ) completion; including requests for pay changes.
  • Advise leadership on change management & organizational effectiveness opportunities, methods, and tools.
  • As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected to support the mission and purpose of the University.
Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience as an HR generalist or strategic partner.
  • Extensive knowledge of HR legal and regulatory requirements, current HR trends, and best practices.
  • Experience with building relationships, exercising sound judgment, thriving in high-pressure and fast-paced environments, and collaboratively solving problems.
  • Ability to provide professional and compliant feedback to all levels within the university, including individual contributors, managers, and senior leaders.
  • Exhibits a high level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Experience using data to inform decision-making.
  • HR Certification
Anticipated Hiring Range

Up to $65,000 commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
