General Summary of Position
The Director of Quality and Safety for the Heart and Vascular Institute is responsible for strategic leadership and operational oversight of clinical quality, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives across all cardiovascular services. This role partners with physician leadership, nursing, and administrative staff to ensure the highest delivery of quality, safe, and patient-centered care. The Director will develop, implement, and monitor systems and programs that support quality measures, clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and safety metrics.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute quality and safety strategies aligned with the mission and goals of MedStar.
  • Strategic Leadership: Lead the development of a culture of continuous improvement and high reliability.
  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with clinical and administrative leadership to identify priorities and drive quality and safety improvement initiatives.
  • Clinical Quality and Performance Improvement: Oversee data collection, analysis, and reporting of clinical performance metrics including registries, mortality, readmissions, infection rates, and procedure outcomes.
  • Clinical Quality and Performance Improvement: Monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, state-specific agencies).
  • Patient Safety: Serve as a key liaison for safety event investigations related to cardiovascular services.
  • Patient Safety: Implement and support proactive risk assessments and safety huddles.
  • Patient Safety: Promote staff education and training on patient safety best practices.
  • Data Management and Reporting: Utilize clinical registries (e.g., STS, ACC/NCDR) and internal dashboards to track and benchmark performance.
  • Data Management and Reporting: Prepare and present quality data to executive leadership, clinical teams, and regulatory bodies.
  • Data Management and Reporting: Support pay-for-performance, value-based care, and quality reporting initiatives.
  • Team and Stakeholder Engagement: Engage interdisciplinary teams in quality and safety projects.

  • Team and Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with informatics, analytics, and quality departments across the organization.


  • Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or related field required
    • Master's degree MSN, MHA, MPH, MBA, or equivalent preferred

    Experience

    • 8-10 years Progressive leadership in healthcare quality and safety required
    • Experience in cardiovascular services required

    Licenses and Certifications

    • CPHQ - Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality CPHQ or equivalent preferred or
    • CPPS - Certified Professional in Patient Safety CPPS or equivalent preferred
    • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure RN license or clinical background preferred


    This position has a hiring range of $93,142 - $175,968
