This position performs a wide variety of field service tasks, but not limited to, the installation and maintenance of meters and remote reading devises used at Aqua Pennsylvania.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (Primary Duties and Responsibilities)

  • Installs, removes, and maintains meters, remote reading devises and various protective devices at the service location.
  • Receives and processes work orders and email using a tablet or computer.
  • Safely and effectively operates, maintains, monitors, and/or controls service department equipment in accordance with departmental processes.
  • Operates and inspects customer service lines, metering devices and appurtenances.
  • Operates and maintains an assigned vehicle in accordance with all safety and maintenance processes, procedures and guidelines.
  • Elevates and reports unusual conditions in the distribution system to the supervisor.
  • Responds to customer water service inquiries. Meets with customer and resolves issues as needed. Activities include performing service leak checks, pressure checks, reading meters and other tasks as needed.
  • Posts termination and other customer notices in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Locates, operates, closes, and/or blocks curb stops and valves to terminate service for delinquent customer accounts.
  • Performs all activities in accordance with the proper use and maintenance of tools, instruments, and meter cleaning and test equipment.
  • Performs Utility Worker duties as assigned.
  • Responds to after hours calls to for emergency and non-emergency situations as required. Available for scheduled overtime.
  • Assists with other tasks or projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (Required Experience, Education, Licenses, and Certifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • A valid US Driver's license
  • A class E Distribution license issued by the PA DEP or obtain one within 2 years as specified by the bargaining unit agreement.
  • Obtain Class A CDL within 9 months of hire per bargaining unit agreement.
  • Meet the physical requirements for the position

  • Ability to use a tablet or computer to receive and process work assignments
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively (clearly, concisely and professionally) with customers
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • A team player able to work effectively in a team fostered multi-tasking environment

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • May be subject to extreme temperatures, noise, wet and/or humid conditions, mechanical, electrical, gas exposure hazards, fumes, dusts, mists, gases and/or poor ventilation atmospheric conditions.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • See, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
  • Operate standard office equipment
  • Working conditions includes travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other customers
  • Must be available for emergency work after regular working hours and weekends and for scheduled overtime
