Come join our team in the Office of Admissions and Recruitment within the Division of Enrollment Management at UW-Madison! We are admissions professionals dedicated to recruiting, admitting, and enrolling the next generation of UW-Madison undergraduates.

The UW-Madison Office of Admissions and Recruitment invites applications for an Admissions Counselor position with a focus on international students and initiatives. The Office of Admissions and Recruitment is a fast-paced, mission-driven professional recruitment and admission office focusing on the undergraduate population. Our admissions counselors play a key role in serving our prospective freshmen and transfer students from application to enrollment. The incumbent will play an important role in the UW-Madison holistic application review process for our international applicants, manage an international recruitment territory, and provide excellent customer service to students, families, and stakeholders who are visiting campus or inquiring with our office.

This position is a Madison-based position with many activities performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

The Admissions Counselor, International is a Renewable/Ongoing position.

Travel is required. Applicants must have a valid driver's license for at least two years and be able to pass a pre-hire driving record check based on UW-Madison driver authorization requirements.

Tasks for this position include:


  • Assist prospective students and their families with questions pertaining to UW-Madison and the application process in person and virtually through serving as a Case Manager
  • Conduct extensive application review primarily for international applicants from your defined territory
  • Develop effective, on-going relationships with secondary school counselors, two-year college counselors and other organizations assisting in the college search process; maintain records of all contacts
  • Give visit day presentations to prospective students, families, and other stakeholders
  • Keep current with and deploy knowledge of national curricula around the world, external examination boards and English proficiency exams; participate in training provided by EducationUSA, InternationalACAC, WES, etc. as needed
  • Manage an international territory and participate in direct recruitment of prospective international students, their families and school personnel; recruitment travel & campus visit presentations may be in person, virtual, or hybrid
  • Participate in admissions committees and processes as assigned
  • Utilize application data, Open Doors report, etc. to develop a recruitment plan for your respective territory. Collaborate with management on an overall international recruitment plan

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Implements policies and procedures for the processing of international applications in alignment with the international recruitment strategic plan
  • Evaluates program effectiveness and provides recommendations for improvement
  • Receives, evaluates, and processes student applications according to established policies and procedures
  • Identifies, promotes, and maintains internal and external partnerships focusing on international student outreach, recruitment, and admission
  • Delivers directed admissions program messaging to internal and external audiences
  • Develops international recruitment-focused strategic planning initiatives and objectives
  • Demonstrates commitment and adherence to the University's mission and the Wisconsin Idea. Participation in related learning activities are mandatory
  • Schedules logistics and secures resources for events to promote the institution

Compensation:

$60,601 (minimum annual salary, negotiable based on experience and qualifications)

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience working with individuals of diverse identities and backgrounds.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including significant public speaking experience and excellent customer service skills
  • Capability to leverage technology including office software applications, database systems, CRM system, etc.
  • Demonstrated commitment to data-driven decision-making, including effective analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently in a high volume fast-paced office
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally, nationally, and internationally
  • Evening and weekend work may be required during peak times

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least two years' experience in the field of higher education, with experience in admissions and/or international education preferred
  • Detailed knowledge of one or more international regions, including demographic trends and educational systems
  • An understanding of both US and international secondary and post-secondary curricula is preferred
  • Knowledge of the college admission recruitment cycle and best practices in recruiting, admitting, and enrolling students is preferred
  • Experience evaluating applications through a selective admission process at a four-year institution is preferred
  • Oral and/or written fluency in a second language is preferred but not required

Education:

Bachelor's degree preferred
