Department Overview

The System Performance, Reliability and Resiliency Strategy department within the overall Electric Transmission and Distribution Engineering organization is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the resources necessary to successfully execute PG&E's Electric Reliability Strategy and initiatives. This team of forward-thinking individuals will be tasked with deploying technology and infrastructure and influencing the organization to achieve the company's reliability goals. The team is responsible for implementing programs required to modernize the electric grid allowing for safe, resilient and efficient operations. The department participates in a cross-functional team of internal and consulting participants being tasked with leading the transition of a project from development and testing to being operational for each phase of each project.

The role will be part of a technically focused, cross-functional team of engineers and data scientists to develop engineering solutions to improve the resilience and reliability of PG&E's electric grid by leveraging high-resolution data from sources such as synchro phasors, SCADA, load flow studies, stability analyses, and asset health systems.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of thejob posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will bebased on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience,market value, geographic location, and internal equity.Although we estimatethe successful candidate hiredinto this rolewill be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decisionwill be made on a case-by-casebasis related tothese factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

  • Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $147,000.00
  • Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $199,000.00
  • Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $251,000.00
  • Minimum Base Salary (California) $140,000.00
  • Mid Base Salary (California) $189,000.00
  • Maximum Base Salary (California) $238,000.00

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop innovative grid solutions to achieve a climate resilient grid
  • Provides clear directions to teams and other departments in the areas of grid modernization, including DER integration, forecasting, capacity planning, grid sectionalizing, and Integrated Grid and investment planning to improve grid resiliency.
  • Solve unique and complex problems, anticipating issues and developing innovative solutions, example, create tools that help identify abnormal operating conditions and provide feedback to drive the system to its optimal and designed planned configuration
  • Support reliability command center and various analysis, assignments and data requests.
  • Supervises staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, rewards and recognition.
  • Establish relationships with key external stakeholders (e.g., industry and regulatory).
  • Articulates goals and mission to key stakeholder teams to assure development of deliverables meets stakeholder needs.
  • Explore, innovate, and demonstrate technologies that improve grid reliability and resiliency
  • Ensures the distribution system performance will meet reliability targets and that outages are analyzed for cause, trends, & duration and utilized for innovative solutions
  • Participates in assignments supporting distribution or distribution network systems. This includes gathering reliability information to lead/facilitate the development of distribution reliability strategy and metrics.
  • Partners with Manager/Director to help determine the most appropriate and effective program performance metrics. Prepares and presents regular updates to senior management, addressing issues and gaining buy in on solutions.
  • Partners with Work Planning/Resource Management teams plan and forecast short- and long-term work to be completed as part of the program. Ensures effective work scheduling and resources will be available to meet the work plan.
  • Contribute to the development of data science strategies aligned with system performance, reliability, and resiliency team goals.
  • Create actionable insights that inform investment planning and real-time decision-making.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent related experience.
  • Five years of relevant experience

Desired:

  • Master's degree in engineering-Electrical or equivalent related experience
  • Master's degree in business administration or actuarial science or equivalent related experience
  • Experience in electric distribution program development and execution preferably in areas of reliability, resiliency and grid modernization.
  • Experience working on grid modernization tools or products.
  • Experience with data processing tools such as Excel, Access, SQL, etc.
  • Experience in Transmission or Distribution System Planning.
  • Knowledge of distribution engineering or operations, substation engineering, transmission or distribution protection, distribution operations.
  • Experience working with SAP Financials and Work Management.
  • Program and project management experience.
  • Ability to lead and influence strategic planning and decision-making, working with senior management at PG&E.
  • Ability to develop and manage department budgets, expenses, and variances.
  • Ability to communicate and support company and organization policies, procedures, goals, objectives, vision and values
