Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Program Development Specialist for the EOF Program within the School of Engineering.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Promotes and achieves student success by providing comprehensive academic support and retention services to students in a specific population and by making timely referrals to appropriate offices.
  • Creates and sustains a supportive learning environment that inspires, encourages, and achieves maximum student success from outreach to completion of the baccalaureate degree.
  • Achieves student success through intrusive academic and personal mentoring, academic coaching, academic guidance, financial literacy and other responsibilities that provide essential student development and leadership.
  • Develops, implements and participates in academic outreach, retention, assessment, guidance, and related initiatives.
  • Provides services to program participants to include intrusive academic advising of SoE students who are identified as needing extra support and resources.
  • Conducts day-today advising meetings.
  • Helps students select appropriate classes and guides students in their choice of an Engineering major.
  • Conducts end-of-semester and end-of-year academic review.
  • Counsels students in academic difficulty and/or on academic probation.
  • Helps students navigate issues with Financial Aid, Housing and Dining Services.
  • Updates advising database records accordingly.
  • Works to prepare students for career readiness through leadership and professional development.
  • Provides numerous scheduled workshops in support of the students' collegiate success, academically, personally and professionally.
  • Shares duties in the planning and running of a five-week summer bridge program for incoming students of this population.
  • Contributes to the career development and alumni engagement of students in the School of Engineering EOF program.
  • Handles the development and implementation of strategies to increase the professional development, career access, and creating connections between alumni and current students.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of related experience in program administration and coordination, working with students in a math/science or engineering curriculum; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.


Certifications/Licenses

  • Ability to motivate and assist students who struggle in college due to a number of socio-economic reasons.
  • Ability to be sensitive to the developmental needs of an adolescent population as well as the needs of underrepresented and first generation college students.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks in an environment of constant interruptions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate records.
  • Thorough understanding of the nature of engineering education and the unique challenges faced by students in the field.
  • Experience assessing learning outcomes, student programming, and retention and outreach efforts.
  • Experience working with domestic and international students with a demonstrated commitment to diversity and multiculturalism.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships in a team environment.
  • A dynamic and engaging personality.
  • Patience, persistence and a positive attitude.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent training and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Fluent in speaking Spanish.
  • Experience with career management concepts.
  • HR/ Labor/Recruiting knowledge and experience.
  • Experience in Career Coaching.
  • Ability to understand challenges that current and prospective students in Engineering or a related field may face in both academic and non-academic settings at a higher education institution.
