General Statement of Responsibilities:

The Clinical Manager, Embedded Mental Health Services will provide strategic leadership and oversight for embedded mental health clinicians and services across the Twin Cities campus. This role will be a strategic partner and liaison between existing collegiate partners while expanding mental health services in embedded physical spaces on campus. The Clinical Manager, Embedded Mental Health Services will provide excellent multicultural and trauma-responsive clinical treatment, training, advocacy, prevention, and outreach services on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. The Clinical Manager, Embedded Mental Health Services, will partner with the Director and Senior Director in maintaining and growing embedded mental services on the East Bank, West Bank and St. Paul campus.

The Clinical Manager, Embedded Mental Health Services must be a licensed mental health clinical professional with experience providing clinical and/or administrative supervision. We are looking for candidates with experience in change management or who have led initiatives or quality improvement processes. This position will work to create and expand services on campus to improve access to the University of Minnesota mental health services. They are also responsible for promoting a safe, equitable, and respectful environment where concerns can be addressed effectively.

Detailed Job Responsibilities:

Leadership Responsibilities (25%):

  • Strategically leads and manages embedded mental health operations, providing clinical consultation, shaping policy development, and overseeing procedural implementation and advanced training programs to drive team performance and service excellence.

  • Co-develops and enforces integrated policies and protocols for embedded mental health services in partnership with the Director, ensuring adherence to ethical standards, evidence-based practices, and regulatory requirements across diverse campus environments.

  • Leads clinical workforce strategy, guiding the recruitment, evaluation, and supervision of embedded clinicians to cultivate a high-performing, inclusive, and adaptable clinical team aligned with institutional goals.

  • Drives data-informed decision-making by analyzing service utilization trends and performance metrics to support strategic planning, resource optimization, and continuous quality improvement.

  • Ensures operational excellence by setting standards for timely, coordinated, and high-quality care delivery across all embedded locations, optimizing workflows to support positive student outcomes.

  • Facilitates strategic team alignment through regular high-impact meetings, fostering cross-functional collaboration, transparency, and shared accountability for clinical and operational outcomes.

  • Leads a robust quality improvement agenda, evaluating clinical effectiveness, integrating stakeholder feedback, and executing targeted service enhancements to meet the evolving needs of campus communities.

  • Oversees onboarding and training systems, delivering comprehensive orientation and clinical development programs that support cultural integration, service consistency, and rapid role readiness for new staff and trainees.

  • Develops and implements continuous professional development strategies, ensuring clinicians remain at the forefront of emerging best practices, campus-specific trends, and student mental health needs.

  • Collaborates with academic leadership and faculty to co-create targeted mental health programs, contribute to student support frameworks, and assess the impact of services within academic units to enhance student well-being and retention.

  • Leads communications strategy for embedded services, increasing awareness, engagement, and utilization of mental health offerings through strategic stakeholder outreach and visibility campaigns.

  • Serves as a key representative in institutional initiatives, contributing clinical leadership and subject matter expertise to cross-campus workgroups and strategic projects aimed at advancing holistic, integrated mental health care delivery.

Clinical Responsibilities (75%):

  • Provides scheduled in-person, virtual, and drop-in culturally and trauma-responsive mental health initial intake and ongoing therapy and counseling appointments to currently enrolled University of Minnesota students.
  • Assess risk and safety and provide immediate referrals and access to appropriate services, such as urgent counseling.
  • Coordinate services between embedded colleges and campus partners (e.g., UMN Care Team, BCT, DRC, ISSS, UMPD) as appropriate.
  • Provide clinical supervision and/or participate in training programs for psychology and master's level practicum students whom they may supervise.
  • Attend continuing education programs and /or participate as needed to remain up-to-date and contribute to the mental health field, and as required to maintain credentials.
  • Promote a safe, equitable, and respectful professional team environment where concerns can be addressed effectively.
  • Participate in a rotation of end-of-day coverage that may go beyond clinic hours to assist with urgent clinical needs.
  • Provides after-hours on-call mental health crisis support as needed

This position also performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS plus at least eight years of experience, or an advanced degree plus at least five years of experience, or a terminal degree plus at least two years of experience.
  • One year of experience, which allows for independent licensure as a mental health therapist in the state of Minnesota.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting a culture that respects and advances diversity and inclusion.
  • 5 years or more of clinical experience in providing short-term and/or specialized mental health services.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years or more of supervisory experience over mental health professionals.
  • Experience working on a college campus or with young adults
  • Demonstrated experience with trauma-informed, culturally responsive care
  • Familiarity with the University of Minnesota and community resources and procedures.

Pay Range: $100,000 - $115,000/year depending on education/qualifications/experience
