Teaching Assistant: Human Rights and Health Advocacy, the Minnesota Advocacy Project

We are looking for a teaching assistant (job code 9511) to assist with the course PUBH 7200 Human Rights and Health Advocacy: The Minnesota Advocacy Project (MAP) for Fall 2025 & Spring 2026 semesters.

This unique course emphasizes interdisciplinary education through small group activities and simulation, with a cohort of instructors who aim to facilitate discussion and learning. We believe educational outcomes will depend on active co-learning with participant engagement, rather than passive learning or reinforcing hierarchical or Socratic academic structures. To iteratively improve this course, we intend to study this educational approach and will rely on course participants' voluntary completion of two online surveys and participation in one focus group.

Appointment will start July 2025, to span the following 2 semesters ( Fall 2025 and Spring
2026 ). Effort of 10 hours per week

This position will work with course leaders to:

- Refine and translate existing educational workbook materials into Canvas
- Preparation of quiz and reflection materials
- Lead didactics and facilitate small group sessions during in-person classes during the
Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 courses as part of a team
- Grade and provide feedback on written assignments during the Fall 2025 and Spring
2026 courses as part of a team
- Collaborate with the MAP team to incorporate student feedback and update course
materials
- Academic administrative duties directly related to administration of a course.
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative data analysis of survey and focus group data, under
supervision
- Attend regular project and team meetings
- Collaborate with research and statistical team on draft manuscript

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
- Graduate student (MS or PhD) in UMN Masters of Human Rights Program

Preferred Qualifications:
