About Salesforce

We're Salesforce, the Customer Company, inspiring the future of business with AI+ Data +CRM. Leading with our core values, we help companies across every industry blaze new trails and connect with customers in a whole new way. And, we empower you to be a Trailblazer, too - driving your performance and career growth, charting new paths, and improving the state of the world. If you believe in business as the greatest platform for change and in companies doing well and doing good - you've come to the right place.

Join the Salesforce Commerce Performance Engineering team-an elite group focused on delivering blazing-fast, scalable commerce experiences across our platform. As a key member of the team, you'll specialize in Order Management System (OMS) performance, with additional opportunities to support performance efforts across Checkout, Payments, and other core product areas.

Our mission is to partner directly with engineering teams to embed performance into every phase of the development lifecycle-from design and development to release and monitoring. We're looking for engineers who not only identify performance issues but create the tests, metrics, and tools to prevent them.

If you're passionate about optimizing large-scale distributed systems, collaborating across product teams, and building a performance-first culture-this role is for you.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Serve as the performance lead for the Order Management product, advising on best practices and reviewing architecture and implementation for performance risks.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design and implement meaningful performance tests, metrics, and dashboards that reflect real customer use cases.

  • Develop automated performance benchmarks and release-over-release differential reports to help teams track regressions and optimizations.

  • Partner with developers to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, contributing fixes and guidance as needed.

  • Drive creation of critical bug reports when regressions are identified, and support follow-through to resolution.

  • Lead technical deep dives across backend services, data layers, and APIs to analyze latency, throughput, and system efficiency.

  • Contribute to performance tooling, automation frameworks, and continuous performance integration pipelines.

  • Champion a performance-first mindset across teams by embedding performance considerations into design and development processes.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in performance engineering, backend development, or systems optimization.

  • Deep expertise in Java/J2EE, microservices architecture, distributed systems, and cloud-native platforms.

  • Strong understanding of data persistence layers, including SQL tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization.

  • Demonstrated success using load generation and profiling tools (e.g., JMeter, Gatling, YourKit, Java Flight Recorder, etc.).

  • Skilled in identifying CPU/memory contention, latency issues, and code-level inefficiencies through deep diagnostics and tooling.

  • Proficiency with at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Ruby, Bash) and comfort building automation tools or CI integrations.

  • Ability to interpret performance test data scientifically and articulate findings clearly to engineering and leadership audiences.

  • Comfortable with O(n) complexity analysis, concurrency design, and debugging in production-like environments.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field (or equivalent experience).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in order management, eCommerce platforms, or inventory systems.

  • Familiarity with Salesforce Commerce Cloud or similar cloud-based commerce platforms.

  • Experience with APM tools like New Relic, AppDynamics, or custom observability frameworks.

  • Exposure to Kubernetes, Kafka, and container-based infrastructure.

  • Experience working in short release cycles and Agile environments.
