JOB MISSION:
New Balance is seeking a highly motivated and passionate engineering student to join the Domestic Manufacturing Engineering Team for 6 months starting in July of 2025. As a Software Innovation Engineer Intern, you will be part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team that is strengthening and modernizing New Balance's domestic manufacturing capabilities. In this role, you will research and prototype new automation and robotic techniques to expand manufacturing capabilities, improve process efficiencies and reduce operating costs. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with internal teams such as the Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Development and Health & Safety departments to ensure projects are delivered with high quality and on schedule.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
* Work with robots to develop novel approaches to shoe construction.
* Design and implement creative ideas for new automation tools, robot control solutions and image processing
* Develop test plans for new software solutions, enabling data-driven strategic design decisions
* Be involved in the development and testing of new data processing and control software
* Support troubleshooting in mechanical, electrical and software issues during development and after deployment.
* Work with team members to manage projects including communicating with vendors and take responsibility for project deliverables and deadlines.
* Document new processes to ensure successful transitions to other teams.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS:
* Enrolled in a bachelor's program in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent discipline.
* A self-starter who has demonstrated problem solving, ideation, creativity, and investigative skills.
* Proficient in Python and familiarity with Linux, git and Azure
* Enjoys working in a fast paced, interdisciplinary environment where there may be tasks outside of a traditional software engineering role
* Willingness to take ownership of the design of system level testing and deployment.
* Willingness to learn about the mechanics and electronics for various robotic and automation systems, including SCADA systems and PLCs
* Ability to communicate and work in a team environment.
* Be curious and inquisitive about each process.

Flexible Work Schedule
