Position Summary: The Children's Aid (CA), established in 1853, is one of New York City's leading child and family service organizations. The Children's Aid College Prep Charter School (CACPCS) serves our community youth from Kindergarten to 5th grade and includes an Early Childhood program. CACPCS is comprised of a multi-level building located at 1232 Southern Blvd. in the Bronx. Children's Aid is looking for a Security Guard to join the CACPCS Security Team.

The Security Guard will be responsible for the safety and well-being of staff and scholars at our school. This includes monitoring cameras, door access, foot patrols and assisting with all emergency operations at the direction of the School Leadership and the Children's Aid Security Operations Manager.

Responsibilities:



  • Continuously manage and monitor the entrances and exits and stairwells of the facility. Greet visitors, scholars, parents and staff in a proactive and positive manner.
  • Promotes overall safety and security awareness throughout the site including the lobby and reception area during working hours, issuing visitor passes and checking out visitors.
  • Professional and courteous while providing exceptional service and appropriate assistance in an expediate manner to all scholars, parents and staff.
  • Maintains a positive attitude with the ability to make quick decisions and handle any conflicts.
  • Provide support to staff when dealing with disruptive or inappropriate behavior as needed or instructed in a diplomatic and professional manner.
  • Observe activities and report irregularities to School Leadership and the CA Security Operations Manager.
  • Conducts regular foot patrols of both the interior and exterior direct perimeter areas of the school, checking for trespassers, vandalism and suspicious activity. Check for signs of intrusion ensuring the security of doors, windows and gates.
  • Responds to all emergencies and crisis situations within the school through direction of the School Leadership and the CA Security Operations Manager.


  • Learn and follow all existing safety/security protocols; ensuring the safety of staff and scholars in the building.


  • Escorts staff to safety as needed. Assists with arranging car service as needed.
  • Serves and takes an active role on the emergency response team. Assists with fire and other emergency drills.


  • Regularly reports to the assigned post on time.
  • Adheres to and is in alignment with the uniform dress code for all CACPCS Security.


  • Receptive to coaching and participates in trainings and development as needed.
  • Submits a Children's Aid Reportable Event for irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, unusual occurrences, violent critical incidents or any other security/safety incidents.



Qualifications:

REQUIRED:




  • 2 years of experience as a security officer.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Good verbal and written skills.


  • Basic Microsoft Office Suite computer skills required, particularly email and calendar and E-Visitor check-in systems.



Other Qualifications:



  • Effective communication skills.
  • Professional approach; resourceful, dependable and approachable.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is helpful but not required.
  • Current and up to date CPR/AED certification helpful.
  • Flexible, on-time and regular attendance required.



Professional Development:



  • Participate in offered trainings and workshops such as Active Shooter, De-escalation, CPR/AED and all other trainings offered. Attend and take part in Children's Aid "All-Staff" conferences.
  • Maintain certification requirements (NYS DOS security licensing) and provide proof of attendance/certification in all professional training/activities.



Health and Safety:



  • Adhere to all state and city licensing requirements.
  • Maintain a healthy and safe environment.

Qualifications
Experience
2 years: Experience as a security officer. (preferred)
