OVERVIEW: To assist the Kitchen Manager with the daily operations of the kitchen and dining facilities. To ensure that the preparation and service of all meals make a positive contribution to the overall experience of our campers and guests. Responsible for the care and upkeep of the commercial kitchen equipment and making necessary recommendations for the purchase of supplies and equipment needed for this service. QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess and demonstrate an ability to work with people, including guests, campers, and staff, in an affable, concerned, and caring manner.
- Must display the ability to be accountable for the efficient scheduling of time and resources made available to perform tasks.
- Must have 3-5 years of food service experience; Some supervisory experience. Formal food service training strongly preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to work under pressure.
- Must be detail-oriented, accurate, punctual, dependable, and personable.
- Will exemplify a character rooted in respect, patience, & sensitivity towards a diverse population
- Ability to lead/motivate staff and volunteers with a variety of skill levels and dispositions
- Ability to maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety and lead others to do so, as well
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and tactful communication at all times
- Ability to lead and work alongside teenagers and young adults seasonally
- Must maintain Food Service Manager Certification once acquired
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Must have a valid AZ Driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with any food service preparation assigned by the Kitchen Manager.
- Assist with cleaning and care of the kitchen, Dining Hall, and all work areas and equipment in keeping with established health department and industry safety standards and codes.
- Be willing to take on any job that may enhance Ponderosa's food service experience.
- Be prepared to take responsibility for meal/snack preparation if required and ensure their readiness in accordance with the scheduled meal/snack times.
- Assist with menu planning.
- Assist in the Conifer Cafe as scheduled and requested.
- Be prepared to order food and supplies as directed by the Kitchen Manager.
- Assist the Kitchen Manager in ensuring proper stock
- In accordance with state and county health codes, properly store all leftovers and unused food after each meal/snack.
- Coordinate the daily work schedule with the Kitchen Manager when asked.
- Ensure that all kitchen cleanup is completed in a timely manner.
- Maintain safe work habits in accordance with all government regulations. Make certain that the attitude and behavior of those in the kitchen area are exemplary at all times and in keeping with professional standards.
- Attend and participate in training as assigned by the Kitchen Manager and Camp Director.
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in personal grooming.
- Assist the Kitchen Manager in any duties as requested in order to maintain a high level of efficiency in the kitchen operation.
- Help ensure that the Camp Ponderosa mission is upheld in the Kitchen and Dining Hall: "To create a mountaintop sanctuary where a deep sense of belonging is found and nurtured by loving service and joyful experiences."
