Lean System Improvements Job Summary

Under general supervision, Lean Facilitator plays a key role in strategy execution, continuous improvement efforts, and other transformational initiatives, to help Denver Health become the most trusted healthcare organization. This position effectively utilizes relationship management, leadership, and communication skills to facilitate the work of interdisciplinary teams, optimizing processes, increasing values, and eliminating wastes throughout the hospital using the principles of Lean and Lean Management Systems.

Essential Functions:
  • Supports Alignment, Action Planning and Achievement of Process-Level Goals (70%)
    * Coaches and facilitates leaders and teams at all levels in the application of Lean Management System tools and principles, including:
    * Managing expectations and achieving operational stability through methods such as Visual Management, 6S, Standardized Work, Performance Metrics, Daily Management, Help Chain, Gemba Walk, and Leader Standard Work.
    * Systematically solving problems and driving continuous improvement in processes using techniques like Process Maturity Assessment, A3 Problem Solving, Process Mapping, Value Stream Mapping, and Kaizen.
    * Organizes multi-disciplinary groups that work collaboratively to solve problems, improve processes, and integrate services with other departments by defining problems or goals, developing thorough understanding of the current state, deploying experiments and countermeasures, studying results, and determining the next steps.
    * Develops Lean capabilities in leaders and teams.
    * Clearly communicate the Lean strategy and plan across the organization while supporting short-term and long-term execution.
    * When available, collaborates with leaders and departments to document data sources and synthesize results into actionable improvement strategies and tactics.
    * Develops reports of overall continuous improvement activities, including accomplishments, cost benefit, participation, and project roadmaps.
    * Provides flexible and responsive customer service to leaders and teams.
    * As needed, provides basic data management support, project management support, and/or change management support to leaders and teams.

  • Operates the Denver Health Lean Academy and Develops Organizational Capabilities (25%)
    * Develops, delivers, and continuously improves content and curriculum for the Denver Health Lean Academy and Lean System Improvement department, following best practices for adult learning in both in-person and virtual formats.
    * Engages adult learners by providing dynamic instruction that makes the content enjoyable and easy to understand.
    * Assists internal and external customers of the Denver Health Lean Academy.
    * Creates, edits, and collaborates on LSI standard work and related materials.
    * Raises awareness and fosters enthusiasm for Lean tools and principles among diverse audiences using various methods.
    *Contributes to the execution of the long-term LSI plan.

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree Required

Work Experience:
  • 1-3 years Experience in facilitation and process improvement required, with three+ years of experience preferred Required and
  • Leadership and organizational culture coaching experience preferred. and
  • Experience in driving Lean Improvement with a proven success record preferred. and
  • Experience creating and delivering educational content and training curriculum to adult learners preferred. and
  • Healthcare-related background preferred.

Licenses:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong facilitation and coaching skills, with exceptional change management acumen to guide interdisciplinary teams through complex transitions effectively and efficiently.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, utilizing various methods tailored to suit different audiences.
  • Ability to document and measure results with basic statistical analysis and data management proficiency.
  • Ability to create and deliver educational content and training curriculum to adult learners.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean (Toyota Production System) tools, methodologies, and Management Systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, and Visio.
  • Electronic Medical Record (e.g., Epic) experience preferred.
  • Excel in ambiguous situations and feel confident facilitating change, prioritizing initiatives, navigating chaos, and establishing structure with a strategic mindset.
  • Ability to influence, collaborate, guide, and coach multidisciplinary leaders across various organizational levels, including executives, to lead change and foster a continuous improvement culture.
  • Have exceptional emotional intelligence, including self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and complex organizational relationship management.
  • Have exceptional interpersonal and conflict management skills
