THE POSITION

As an Insurance Company Licensing Specialist, you will utilize your strengths to review and recommend approval or disapproval of applications for licensure or registration as domestic insurers, foreign insurers, and other risk-bearing and non-risk-bearing entities. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Within this role, you will be tasked with evaluating applications from entities seeking to be registered as surplus lines insurers, risk retention groups, risk purchasing groups, pharmacy benefit managers, auditing entities, reinsurers, and other entities under the jurisdiction of the Insurance Department. Work involves conducting market share analyses upon notification of mergers of companies licensed in PA as well as reviewing proposed corporate names and issuing letters of approval or disapproval. You will also have the opportunity to provide guidance to Insurance Department personnel, state regulators, other Commonwealth agencies, and the general public regarding licensing and insurance holding company matters. Additional responsibilities include reviewing, analyzing, and making recommendations for approval or disapproval of applications for:

  • Initial licensure for newly organized domestic insurers, health maintenance organizations, and other risk-bearing entities domiciled in Pennsylvania
  • The merger or acquisition of domestic insurers
  • Foreign insurance companies seeking to re-domesticate to and licensure in Pennsylvania
  • Domestic and foreign insurance companies seeking to amend their certificates of authority
  • Non-risk-bearing entities including insurance administrators, viatical settlement providers, reinsurance intermediary brokers, reinsurance intermediary managers, managing general agents, managers, exclusive general agents, and insurance premium finance companies

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. You will be required to report in-office one day per month. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of professional regulatory experience in the review and analysis of insurance corporation proposals, filings, operations, financial conditions or licensure requests and a bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, economics, finance or a closely related field; or
  • One year of professional experience in analyzing financial statements of insurance companies, or examining the financial conditions of insurance companies or operations of insurance companies, and a bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, economics, finance or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of professional experience in analyzing financial statements of insurance companies, or examining the financial conditions of insurance companies or operations of insurance companies.
