Description

Location: NAS Patuxent River, MD and at sea on a U.S. Navy ship

Security Clearance Requirement: Top Secret

Telework Eligible? No

In your role as a Simulation Systems Engineer, you will provide critical technical and operational support to an important U.S. Navy program. The work on this program directly contributes to advancing naval aviation training and plays a vital role in ensuring Warfighter readiness and mission success. This position will be based at NAS Patuxent River, MD and will require deployment of 6+ weeks at a time on U.S. Navy ships. U.S. Passport will be required.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Using your expertise in distributed simulation environments and interoperability standards to connect and optimize the performance of various training systems, including flight simulators, sensor simulators, and threat environments.
  • Operate the Next Generation Threat System (NGTS) and other Semi-Automated Forces (SAF) systems to design, refine, and execute dynamic, high-fidelity training scenarios that challenge and enhance aircrew performance.
  • Diagnosing and resolving technical issues related to Naval Aviation trainer systems, including hardware, software, networking, and integration challenges.
  • Performing preventative maintenance and implementing procedures to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security of critical training systems while forward deployed.

The job description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities. It is intended to describe the general nature of the position.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or a related STEM field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with distributed simulation environments, particularly in support of aircrew or military aviation training, required.
  • Strong understanding of Navy fighter and Command and Control (C2) platforms, including mission systems, interoperability, and threat management.
  • Proficient in distributed simulation protocols such as DIS (Distributed Interactive Simulation) and HLA (High-Level Architecture), with a solid grasp of network connectivity requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with NGTS (Next Generation Threat System) or other Semi-Automated Forces (SAF) simulation platforms is highly desired.
  • In-depth knowledge of simulation software used for maintenance, operational simulation, control, threat generation, monitoring, and briefing/debriefing.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles and Authorization to Operate (ATO) requirements is a plus.
  • IMPORTANT: This position will require extensive time onboard a U.S. Navy vessel, potentially for 6+ weeks at a time. Being comfortable in an "at sea" environment is critical. Additionally, these ships are not accessible to individuals with limited mobility. When not at sea, work will be performed on-site at NAS Patuxent River, MD.

Equally Important:

  • You are able to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers.
  • You possess professional and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • You take a proactive approach to your work and you're able to accomplish tasks with limited guidance and supervision.
  • You have demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Your organizational skills allow you to manage competing priorities.
