Generator Maintenance Mechanic

Location: Petersburg, Virginia (Fort Gregg-Adams)

Type: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Full-time, Day Shift

Compensation: $37.02 - $37.02/hr

Tessera is seeking a dedicated and reliable Special Equipment Mechanic with a positive attitude. The Specialist Equipment Mechanic applies basic technical knowledge to perform tasks such as analyzing malfunctions, repair, rebuild and maintain generators, air compressors, facility cranes, roll-up doors, or other electro-mechanical equipment as assigned.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Performs monthly preventive maintenance and repairs on IC engines, diesel generators, and associated equipment, air compressors, facility cranes, roll-up doors, or other electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on automatic transfer switches (ATS) and annunciator panels.
  • Performs load testing on units to identify possible problems and prevent wet stacking.
  • Conducts automatic and manual transfer tests of simulated power outages to ensure generators are functioning properly (Annual).
  • Tests batteries, fuel coolant and oil. Transport and dispose of hazardous materials (Oils, antifreeze, batteries).
  • Communicates and interacts directly with the customer, informing the customer of unexpected or additional repairs and determining customer needs.
  • Ensures completed work meets quality control standards.
  • Make difficult diagnoses and suggest solutions and repairs to customers.
  • Communicate with scheduler to update the status of repairs and estimate completion dates.
  • Responds to customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Assists with orienting and training new employees and assists with work assignments.
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team.
Qualifications:
  • Direct experience working on commercial generators and controls.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics and blueprints.
  • Must have the ability and be willing to work outside of normal working hours such as back shift and weekends, in the event of unplanned emergencies.
  • Ability to work in a variety of different environments, including inclement weather and from manlifts.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in and contribute to a team.
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to provide customer service in a professional and courteous manner.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Position duties may require working outside in the weather. Conditions may include rain, cold and/or heat.
  • Position may require working in high places such as scaffolding, ladders, man baskets, and/or cherry pickers.
  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

Requirements:

  • A valid state driver's license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera's insurance carrier.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access. A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
