Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Functions as liaison to provider a successful dictation and transcription service for physicians with Nuance as an out-source company. Initiates and maintains all patient medical records. Preps and analyzes all medical records for completeness. Locates and eliminates duplicate medical records for the paper-based and electronic medical record. Primarily responsible for quality assurance of all documentation received in the H.I.S. department. Review Uniform Data Definitions and Methods for Data Capture in Coding and Abstracting. Updates patient demographic data and other information in multiple software application utilized in the Health Information Services department related to maintaining the Master Patient Index and electronic medical record.



Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High School diploma required. 2 or 4 year degree in business/finance. Health Information Management or related field preferred.

SKILLS:



  • Computer/keyboard/word processing skills required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, clinical medicine, surgery diagnostic test, pharmacology, and the various medical specialties as required in the areas of responsibility
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including English usage, grammar, punctuation and style
  • Ability to understand diverse accents and dialects and varying dictation styles
  • Excellent listening and problem solving skills required
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously in a fast paced environment.
  • Computer database/network search capability
  • Process management for electronic document distribution, workflow monitoring, keyboarding and word processing skills preferred
  • Medical terminology
  • Joint Commission standards familiarity
  • Ability to learn and use new software to include document imaging and word processing applications
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills with the ability to manage several priorities at one time and to work in a team setting


EXPERIENCE: Four years Medical Records transcription experience required. One-year problem solving for computed interface is required.

NATURE OF SUPERVISION:

-Responsible to: Director, Health Information Management

ENVIRONMENT:

- Bloodborne pathogen A

General office environment. Knowledge of general safety standards. Exposure to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Episodic sedentary work with intense mental concentration up to seven hours per day. Moderate physical effort (able to lift/carry up to 25 lbs.). Keyboarding up to seven hours per day using sound ergonomic principles. Ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less. Ability to hear via headsets.
