Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the UCI Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and the Director for Physician Enterprise Clinical Operations, for UCI Health, the Specialty Care Administrator applies extensive knowledge and technical expertise in managing, planning, administering, and coordinating administrative operations for the UCI Specialty Care Associates Medical Group. The incumbent works in collaboration with the UCI Specialty Care Medical Director and assists with advancing the various initiatives of the UCI Specialty Care Physician and APP Workforce. This position will assist in optimal daily physician clinical operations; assist in physician and provider recruitment and onboarding in collaboration with various UCI entities; manage physician and provider schedules; manage payroll and related human resource matters for over 30 Physicians, 6 Nurse Practitioners, with plans for continued growth; annual preparation and financial management of about a $13M budget; assist in the facilitation of outstanding primary care services as measured by metrics of quality of care, patient satisfaction and financial performance; and provide direction, assistance, or support of initiatives regarding UCI strategic goals as they relate to the delivery and growth of primary care services at UCI.

Required Qualifications:

  • Thorough knowledge of University rules and regulations, processes, protocols and procedures for budget, accounting and fund management, and / or personnel management.
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge, and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Minimum 7 years' experience providing advanced management/leadership in an academic healthcare or clinical environment, preferably in a higher education institution
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in cost accounting and finance administration
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Excellent skill and ability in the management of physician resources, clinical space utilization, and financial resources through the development of physician operational plans and appropriate financial analysis that are clear, concise, logical and appropriate for the audience
  • Excellent knowledge of payroll functionality, applicable financial analysis, and other payroll-related functionality
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively and establish, interact with, and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, associated UCI Faculty, staff, School of Medicine UCI Health administrative leaders, and support functions and departments
  • Demonstrated ability to implement projects and maximize metrics of clinical quality, billing proficiency, clinical coding proficiency, patient satisfaction, and cost of care
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, Business, Human Resources or related discipline and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Advanced skills in short- and long-term strategic planning, analysis, problem solving, and customer service
  • Advanced knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques and / or human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)and computer-based tools with the ability to develop and successfully utilize various analytic and reporting tools relative to physician utilization, clinical quality metrics, and patient satisfaction
  • Advanced ability to use sound judgment and reasoning, actively listen, and think critically
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Public Administration, Healthcare Administration, Business, Human Resources or related discipline
  • Knowledge of EPIC Systems EHR and EPIC reporting functionality
