Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking a part-time tariff and customs attorney for engagement through the firm's contract attorney and alternative staffing program, DWTSurge. This contract attorney position will work with the Firm's International Trade, Investment & National Security practice team to provide expert legal advice and support on matters related to tariffs, trade and customs regulations, and international commerce.
This contract position will work independently to assist a diverse range of clients providing comprehensive advice on tariff classifications, valuation, duty assessments, and more.
Mid to senior level attorneys seeking reduced hours and greater flexibility are encouraged to apply for this part-time contract position. The role offers remote work and flexible hours, with potential for additional weekly hours based on skills and integration into the practice group. Candidates will work on complex issues involving international trade regulations, customs compliance, and trade agreements, and provide high-value legal services to clients in a challenging trade environment with rapidly changing tariff, customs and import laws. This role is ideal for attorneys interested in a flexible, alternative-track working relationship with the firm.
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience in other areas of international trade -- e.g., export controls (EAR and ITAR), trade sanctions and CFIUS - are desirable but not essential for successful candidacy for this position.
Please note that this is a temporary contract position managed by DWT's flexible attorney program, DWTSurge. Compensation will be paid on an hourly basis, commensurate with experience and skill level (see below). This role is not benefitted. Due to the structure of the DWTSurge program, DWTSurge employees are not eligible for the firm's pro bono, DEI, and other activities or opportunities outside of the above stated scope of work. Salary Range
The hourly range for this position in CA, IL, MD, MN, NY, OR, WA, and WDC is $180-$220 per hour. Actual pay will be adjusted based on the candidate's education, training, experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Paid sick leave is accrued on a biweekly basis at a rate of 1 hour per 30 hours worked.
