- The client hires numerous Gearbox Assembly Technicians to overhaul and rebuild locomotive gears.
- We are responsible for disassembling, cleaning, repairing, and reassembling components according to drawings and guidelines to meet product specifications and quality standards.
- We inspect and adjust completed motors to meet specifications, tolerances, and customer order requirements.
- Attach gearbox housing and couplings to build the stand.
- Install gears, bearings, and housings.
- Measure for accurate clearances using a calibrated instrument (depth gauge, caliper, micrometer).
- Install spacers and covers and various fasteners, plugs, and hardware.
- Demount the gearbox from the build stand.
- Inspect, test (if applicable), and adjust completed units to ensure that teams meet specifications, tolerances, and customer order requirements.
- Assemble parts or units and position, align, and fasten units to assemblies, subassemblies, or frames.
- Disassemble units to replace parts or to crate them for shipping.
- Position, align, and adjust parts for accurate fit and assembly.
- Attach name plates and mark identifying information on parts.
- Measure parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and verniers to determine tolerances.
- Inspect claims for surface defects.
- Align, fit, or assemble parts using hand or power tools, fixtures, templates, or microscopes.
- Verify part dimensions or clearances to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
- Read and interpret schematic drawings, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, work orders, bills of materials, or reports to determine materials requirements or assembly instructions.
- Explain assembly procedures or techniques to other workers.
- Clean working areas and parts using cleaning solutions, air hoses, and cloths.
- Inventory tools.
- Drill or tap holes in specified equipment locations.
- Confer with supervisors or engineers to plan or review work activities or resolve production problems.
- Conduct 6S audits and safety walks.
- Participate in work groups/projects to inform oneself, provide information to others, and optimize processes and workflows.
- Monitoring/Assessing the performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
- Operation Monitoring, watching gauges, dials, or other indicators ensures a machine works properly.
- Troubleshooting, determining the causes of operating errors, and deciding what to do.
- Assemble mechanical connections and components per drawings, instructions, and procedures.

Required Skills / Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 2 years experience with electromechanical assembly
- Minimum of 2 years experience with Wiring
- Minimum 2 years of Direct assembly experience with reading and interpreting schematic drawings
- Minimum of 2 years experience in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and their applications.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in environmental health and safety laws and procedures.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in product, artistry standards, and assembly procedures.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in computer software applications.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in machines, power, and hand tools, including their designs, uses repair, and operator-level maintenance.
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
- Knowledge of basic lean principles and techniques for optimizing processes and eliminating waste.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (read, speak, write)
- Ability to collaborate successfully in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to learn and process information quickly and execute tasks successfully
- Ability to work safely and to operate power tools and equipment in a safe manner
- Be able to read complex schematics
