Summary:

The Chief Clinical Research Officer of UNC Clinical Research Partners*, a newly established clinical research joint venture between UNC Health and the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill, will serve as the executive and clinical research leader for the integrated clinical research enterprise. In this capacity, this position will be responsible for expanding access to innovative treatments and clinical care across the UNC Health network by increasing the number of clinical trials in all fields of medicine across the healthcare system. The Chief Clinical Research Officer will report to the UNC Clinical Research Partners* Board and work with the UNC Clinical Research Partners* SME Executive Committee. Working collaboratively with UNC SOM's, UNC Health's, and UNC Chapel Hill's clinical and administrative leadership, this position will oversee establishment of the UNC Clinical Research Partners* joint venture, set the strategic direction for the organization, optimize and expand clinical operations, foster expansion of partnerships with industry, foundation, federal, and other partners, and liaise with the UNC Clinical Research Partners* Advisory board to ensure effective oversight. The ideal candidate is a national leader in conducting clinical research particularly with non-federal partners within academic medical centers, highly experienced in leading clinical research institutions/organizations, and a strategic thinker capable of identifying the challenges and opportunities that need to be addressed to achieve UNC's clinical research goals in partnership with key stakeholders across UNC Health, SOM, and UNC.

Responsibilities:

Strategy: Develop and articulate a clear vision and strategic direction for UNC Clinical Research Partners* in collaboration with the Subject Matter Expert (SME) Executive committee and the UNC Clinical Research Partners* Board. Serve as the strategic leader and engage with the President of UNC Health Enterprises & Chief Academic Officer, the Vice Chancellor for Research for UNC Chapel Hill, the SOM Executive Dean and Vice Dean for Research to inform broader research strategy and with relevant offices within their respective organizations (i.e., UNC via Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) and SOM Office of Research, etc.), to ensure alignment with the mission and goals of UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Health and the UNC SOM. Partner with the OVCR and SOM on the university's clinical research portfolio, which sits at UNC. Establish and implement policies and procedures that support UNC Clinical Research Partners*'s strategic objectives and ensure compliance with relevant regulations, compliance, and ethical standards. Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within UNC Clinical Research Partners*, leading efforts to adopt new technologies and methodologies to enhance clinical research.

Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the single, executive-level point of contact for industry and other partner interactions, identifying and cultivating relationships and fostering partnership growth to lead the expansion of UNC Clinical Research Partners*'s clinical research portfolio. Strategize with multiple units including but not limited to the North Carolina Translational and Clinical Sciences (NC TraCS) Institute, the UNC Office of Clinical Research, and the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center to identify new areas of research and foster new clinical trial leaders. Deliver performance updates to the UNC Clinical Research Partners* Board and SME Executive Committee, escalating major issues and risks that may impact UNC Clinical Research Partners*'s operations and developing and implementing mitigation strategies when needed.

Clinical Responsibilities: Provides patient- and family-centered clinical care in alignment with UNC Health policies and provide clinical leadership within UNC Health for integration and expansion of clinical research including engaging facility leadership teams and other operational stakeholders to support research agenda (e.g., financially, administratively, logistically).

Qualifications

Education Requirements:
* Medical degree (MD, DO) with a clinical appointment at the affiliated academic medical center.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* Board Certified Physician in a clinical discipline.
Professional Experience Requirements:
* Requires a minimum of twelve (12) years of experience, with at least ten (10) years of people management experience.
* Prefer significant experience in clinical research and organizational leadership, preferably in a role similar to President or Vice President of Research, Chief Clinical Research Officer, or Executive Director of an Academic Research Organization.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
* Strategic Thinking: Strong strategic thinking and vision-setting capabilities, with a proven track record of developing and implementing successful strategic plans.
* Communication: Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
* Financial Management: Proven financial management and operational oversight abilities, with experience in budgeting, fundraising, and financial reporting.
* Partnership Management: Experience in managing partnerships with industry and other stakeholders, including contract negotiation and relationship cultivation.
* Leadership: Strong leadership and team management skills, with a focus on fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
