The Strategic Communications and Marketing department at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Senior Social Media Manager. About the Opportunity The Senior Social Media Manager will be the day-to-day content lead and scheduler of West Virginia University's institutional social media accounts (WestVirginiaU and WVUMountaineers). They are an integral member of the Social Media Team and the Strategic Communications & Marketing (SCM) Team. They be the primary manager of the University's Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, TikTok, YouTube, X accounts, among others, which includes execution of strategy, content development, posting, monitoring and reporting. This position engages more than 500,000 individuals on a daily basis through social media and emerging digital platforms, making them one of the most critical brand ambassadors at the University. The Senior Social Media Manager plays a key role in the development of content and ideas for the University's main social media presence, planning this content, writing copy, scheduling, posting and reporting. This position will work in collaboration with other team members who help to strategize and develop content for the main University accounts, as well. This position will utilize all main social media accounts to help recruit undergraduate students, reach alumni and parents with memorable messages, and engage our University audiences with unique and industry-leading content. This role also helps to share the institutional standards for social media, particularly when it comes to developing content and executing plans on social media platforms. What You'll Do: Platform management
- Manage the University's Facebook presence, including scheduling, posting, written content, monitoring, and reporting.
- Manage the University's Instagram presence, including scheduling, posting, written content, monitoring, and reporting.
- Manage the University's LinkedIn presence, including scheduling, posting, written content, monitoring, and reporting.
- Manage the University's Threads presence, including scheduling, posting, written content, monitoring, and reporting.
- Manage the University's TikTok presence, including scheduling, posting, written content, monitoring, and reporting.
- Manage the University's YouTube presence, including scheduling, posting, written content, monitoring, and reporting.
- Manage the University's X presence, including scheduling, posting, written content, monitoring, and reporting.
- Manage the University's Facebook presence, including scheduling, posting, written content, monitoring, and reporting.
- Manage any up-and-coming social media platforms, as determined by the Director of Social Media.
- Schedule social media posts at least two weeks in advance on all assigned platforms.
- Monitor social media platforms for pertinent hashtags, location searches for user-generated content, comments and direct messages; provide a response when necessary.
- Maintain the quality on all social media platforms this position manages.
- Actively engage on social media accounts to build WVU's visibility, enhance reputation, and build relationships with key audiences; provide a high level of customer service and quick response times.
Organization and support
- Develop and manage a content calendar and execution plans for the Social Media Team.
- Be the lead project manager on social media campaigns for the main University accounts.
- Often leads brainstorm discussions, meetings and teams within SCM on the best ways to utilize social media platforms and develop written content for it that help to meet the goals of the unit and University.
- Identify ways to build WVU's visibility and enhance its reputation through innovative use of social media platforms.
- Develop and execute social media campaigns and projects that align with department, division, unit and University goals.
- Complete monthly and yearly reporting for accounts in which this position is primarily responsible for.
- Follow established strategies and develop content to best meet goals of these strategies.
- Monitor trends in social media to help strategize whether it is appropriate for a University function.
- Managing and oversee student workers on the Social Media Team, as needed.
- Alongside the Director of Social Media, conduct University-wide workshops with staff on best practices for social media, sharing and representing the University's standards developed for social media.
- Actively represent SCM in meetings, project teams, presentations, etc.
- Fully understand the University's mission, vision, values, goals and brand.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- A minimum of four (4) years of related experience
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated excellence of all popular social media platforms, specifically Instagram.
- Demonstrated experience in noting social media and marketing trends, with demonstrated experience to analyze media trends and create strategic media plans accordingly
- Demonstrated experience in developing visual content for marketing purposes.
- Demonstrated experience to create content specific to Instagram (photos, videos, graphics for both Instagram feed, Instagram Story and Reels).
- Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships
- Experience in marketing goal development, tracking and analytics
- Experience in developing strong customer relationships
- Experience in organizing tasks, documents and materials with efficiency and accuracy
- Experience in developing written communications
- Experience in managing multiple projects with competing priorities
- Self-starter and can lead independently and proactively
- Strong problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail
- Ability to adhere to WVU brand guidelines
- Ability to take note of changing technology trends as it impacts marketing and make necessary changes
