On any given day, you may be called upon to:

  • Proactively investigate and support system performance, addressing technical issues, conducting discovery and resolution, monitoring system status, and analyzing state-of-health trends.

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert in computer science and act as a liaison between sponsors, community partners, and Sandia, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.

  • Conduct analysis to optimize software and sensor system performance and mentoring the customer community on the potential applications of the systems.

  • Understand user and community needs, devise innovative approaches to utilizing the systems to meet those needs through research, data analysis, and informing the community of modified approaches.

  • Participate in routine system on-call duties, providing timely support and resolution of issues as they arise.

  • Assist in the planning and execution of tests and exercises for internal and external clients and users, ensuring system reliability and performance.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to schedule and support a variety of system engineering activities, including software installations, upgrades, and preventative maintenance.

  • Support the evaluation and documentation of systems, ensuring compliance with standards and best practices, and regularly report system status to site management, Sandia management, and partners.

  • Contribute to technical and programmatic reviews with sponsors and partner organizations, promoting continuous improvement of system processes and performance.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite in the Denver Metro Area.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q and SCI clearance which may require a polygraph test.

Qualifications We Desire:

The ideal R&D Computer Scientist candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:

  • Graduate degree in Computer Science or a highly related field with extensive programming experience.

  • Active DOE Q or DOD TS security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain an SCI.

  • Creating and modifying software tools via scripting languages to support routine and novel technical investigations (ex. Python/Perl and Shell scripting).

  • Generating, modifying, and utilizing procedures needed for real-time testing, problem resolution, software test and checkout, and day-to-day operations.

  • Configuration Management processes.

  • Data architectures, data quality and data assurance.

About Our Team:

We design, develop, and manage ground systems for real-time national security missions. ASPO is the primary Customer interface and user community interface for these unique systems. We provide the technical design, integration, advisement, and direction for delivery and mission extension through architecture, system engineering, technical integration and evaluation of systems, and mission system engineering and analysis.

One of the supporting organizations within ASPO is Ground Strategy (06338). This organization is responsible for the day-to-day operation of ground systems and associated sensor systems, advancement of mission capabilities, and defining strategies for evolving current ground system architectures for next generation needs. Within organization 06338 is 06338-1 Remote Mission Engineering and Analysis who support fielded, remote sensing ground systems. The 06338-1 team works closely with our Mission Engineering and Analysis organizations to conduct analyses of signatures and signals as they relate to mission definition coupled with payload and ground capabilities in optimizing system performance to meet customer mission technical requirements. Their technical expertise extends beyond day-to-day system operations to help define new and novel ways to exploit system capabilities for national mission needs.

Posting Duration:

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the 'posting date'. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
