At Milwaukee Tool we firmly believe that our People and our Culture are the secrets to our success - so we give you unlimited access to everything you need to create disruptive new technologies and solutions on our electrical engineering teams. Our Engineering Team is responsible for giving life to the batteries, motors, and electronics that power solutions changing the lives of our users. Every developmental phase of these critical components happens in-house under the watch of this team. We continue to invest in engineering resources to design and develop leadership in battery capabilities; something unique within the industry. We're pushing the limits in battery engineering, design, and testing capabilities.

A Cell Engineer II will lead the development of cells at suppliers and testing to support the needs of a global Li-Ion battery business in the areas of new product development, technology development, warranty analysis, and supplier quality management. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in electrodes process and cell assembly, with a strong background in battery cell development. Major responsibilities include collaboration with quality, engineering, and manufacturing teams to support supplier qualifications, execute new product development projects, support the development of technology roadmaps, and advanced quality initiatives. This includes working in a collaborative team environment with marketing, project management, quality, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, agency/safety teams, and global manufacturing operations.

You'll be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:
  • Lead the testing, qualification, and characterization of lithium-ion battery cells.
  • Design and execute test plans to evaluate cell performance, safety, and reliability across various use cases.
  • Analyze test results and provide recommendations for design improvements or supplier feedback.
  • Utilize battery test equipment and data acquisition systems for electrical, thermal, and environmental evaluations.
  • Develop cell-level specifications to meet project requirements.
  • Support qualification and selection of cell suppliers, ensuring alignment with internal standards.
  • Participate in the development and execution of new product development projects and technology roadmaps.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and failure investigations to identify product or process weaknesses.
  • Support cell-to-pack integration and validation efforts in collaboration with systems teams.
  • Work closely with teams across marketing, project management, electrical and mechanical engineering, quality, safety/regulatory, and global manufacturing.
  • Communicate technical results clearly to internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Participate in cross-functional design reviews and contribute to risk assessments.
What TOOLS you'll bring with you:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or a closely related field.
  • A Ph.D. in one of the above fields may substitute for industry experience, provided the research focused on battery or electrochemical systems.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in lithium-ion battery development, testing, or engineering (industry experience preferred).
  • Demonstrated hands-on expertise in electrochemical testing, cell analysis, and characterization techniques.
  • Experience with battery failure analysis, supplier qualification, and project execution.

We provide these great perks and benefits:

  • Robust health, dental and vision insurance plans.

  • Generous 401 (K) savings plan.
