Job Summary
The Department of Human Development and Family Science ( HDFS), through a partnership with the US Department of Defense (DoD) and the US Department of Agriculture - National Institute of Food and Agriculture ( USDA/ NIFA), is seeking candidates for the position of Research Associate/Research Fellow to support the work of Military REACH www.MilitaryREACH.org .
Military REACH provides high-quality resources to the DoD's Office of Military Community and Family Policy in the form of research reports and professional development tools across the spectrum of family support, readiness, and resilience.
In collaboration with the larger research team, this individual will assist in the summarizing and synthesizing of family science research for target audiences. Those target audiences primarily include policymakers and direct services helping professionals. This position requires the candidate to have advanced research literacy and considerable writing experience, such that they must be able to interpret statistical models, critically evaluate individual studies and bodies of literature, and translate research into everyday language to explain scientific findings to audiences without a research background.
* Since September 2017, Military REACH has been housed at Auburn University and there has been continuous funding. All positions on our team, including the one currently posted, are a one-year term appointments; continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funding and job performance. *
Essential Functions
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- The individual will work collaboratively with the Military REACH research team to plan, oversee, and complete research products, such as summaries of research articles and literature reviews addressing topics pertinent to the grant's target audiences.
- They will work collaboratively with a variety of personnel, data sources, and datasets, and prepare reports and communicate findings to key stakeholders.
- They may present research and program findings to technical and non-technical audiences during stakeholder meetings and at conferences.
- They may supervise, mentor, and manage other researchers and students on the team and work collaboratively with their supervisors.
- Dependent on project needs and candidate interest, there is also potential to conduct qualitative and quantitative data analyses and prepare publications.

Research Associate II: Master's degree from an accredited institution in Human Development and Family Science, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a related discipline at the time employment begins. 2 years of experience in research practices and protocols; 3 years preferred.
Research Associate III: Master's degree from an accredited institution in Human Development and Family Science, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a related discipline at the time employment begins. 4 years of experience in research practices and protocols.
Research Associate IV: Master's degree from an accredited institution in Human Development and Family Science, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a related discipline at the time employment begins. 6 years of experience in research practices and protocols.

Research Fellow I: Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in Human Development and Family Science, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a related discipline at the time employment begins. No experience in research practices and protocols.
Research Fellow II: Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in Human Development and Family Science, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a related discipline at the time employment begins. 2 years of experience in research practices and protocols.
Research Fellow III: Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in Human Development and Family Science, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a related discipline at the time employment begins. 4 years of experience in research practices and protocols.
Research Fellow IV: Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in Human Development and Family Science, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or a related discipline at the time employment begins. 6 years of experience in research practices and protocols.

Must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications


Minimum Skills and Abilities
- Advanced level of social science research knowledge, including qualitative and quantitative analyses.
- Superior critical thinking skills, particularly to synthesize a body of research to identify broader themes and convey these themes through written research reports.
- Excellent written skills, including conveying ideas, writing structure, and grammar.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work both independently and with a team.
- Strong data skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills including managing timelines.
- Skills in planning and executing data analyses, and then summarizing and synthesizing results.
- Substantial team-based experiences in which research or evaluation project design, completion goals, deliverables, and timelines were collaboratively determined with other entities.
- Skills in data visualization to create infographics, graphs, and charts and present research findings in visually clear reports are preferred.
Minimum Technology Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and common statistical programs (e.g., SPSS, AMOS, MPlus).
