General Purpose of Job: General Purpose of Job: Provide inspirational, action-oriented Physician leadership to a Quality Care Assurance Team (QCAT) as it works to facilitate achievement of hospital strategic and operational goals for quality (effectiveness, efficiency, safety, timeliness, patient-centeredness, equability). Translate input and direction from the Board Quality and Patient Safety Committee (BQPSC) through the University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Hospital Quality Pillar (QP) to engage Providers, Caregivers, Patients and Families in activities that achieve specified quality goals, promoting innovation, high reliability, pervasive adoption of standardized best practices, reduction of unnecessary variation, and achievement of national benchmark results for quality and the Patient experience. - Directs the activities of the QCAT to which the QCAT Medical Director has been assigned.
- Chairs the QCAT Committee and represents the QCAT at Quality Pillar meetings.
- Works collaboratively with the CMQO, VP-Quality, VP-CMIO & CTO, senior leadership, clinical department chairs, risk management, nursing, pharmacy, and administrative leadership to use QCAT structure to develop and implement best-in-class hospital quality programs.
- Leads Physician Daily Quality Report (PDQR) on a rotational basis.
- Takes input and direction from the BQPSC and QP around prioritized quality goals and collaborates with others to create relevant action plans and projects to complete them.
- Works with QCAT members and Department Leaders to develop, implement, evaluate and adjust plans to achieve QP-prioritized quality goals.
- Engages front-line Providers and Caregivers, along with Patients and Families, in activities that achieve BQPSC and QP-specified quality goals.
- Promotes pervasive Provider adoption of standardized best practices, reduction of unnecessary variaion, and achievement of national benchmark results for quality and the Patient experience.
- Works with QCAT members and front-line Clinicians to develop agreed-upon measures of success based on "SMART" goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound).
- Works with CMQO, VP-Quality and Chief of Staff to report performance and promote Provider, Caregiver and Department accountability for achieving quality-related performance goals.
- Collaborates with reporting and communication teams to share quality improvement initiatives, quality and patient safety performance. Participates in recognition programs for high-performers.
- Coordinates closely with iSparrow and other relevant information technology and health information management teams to faciliatate achievement of hospital quality goals.
- Collaborates with Data Analysts to create and use actionable dashboards that display historical and current performance.
- Leverages predictive analytics where available to focus efforts in priority areas (e.g., increased risks for readmission, morbidity, mortality, VTE, prolonged LOS, nonbeneficial care; early detection of sepsis)
- Promotes a culture of safety, high-reliability, Patient and Caregiver engagement, and performance excellence.
Maintains current competency and expertise in quality and patient safety.

Work Experience |
* Five years clinical experience. * Previous experience as a Medical Director of Adult Critical Care |
Education |
* Medical Doctor/Doctor of Osteopathy Degree from an accredited university. * Board Certification or equivalence in an applicable specialty/subspecialty devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory problems |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Highly developed interpersonal skills, and ability to organize. * Must be highly respected by the medical staff, nursing, administration, and other members of the health care team. |
