POSITION PURPOSE The Manager, Sales Compensation is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and administration of sales incentive compensation programs that drive performance and align with company goals. This role will serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership and sales management, providing guidance on best practices, incentive plan effectiveness, and performance outcomes. The position requires deep expertise in compensation modeling, data analysis, and effective communication to ensure transparency and alignment across the sales organization. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
- Design, implement, and administer competitive, effective sales incentive compensation plans across multiple sales teams, ensuring alignment with business objectives and behaviors that drive desired company outcomes.
- Model, analyze, and evaluate compensation plans to ensure alignment with sales goals, financial targets, and overall effectiveness.
- Partner with senior leadership, finance, and sales leaders to review, recommend, and gain buy-in for new or revised plan designs.
- Translate complex compensation structures into clear, concise communication materials and training for the salesforce.
- Manage the full annual incentive compensation plan cycle-including development, data validation, system readiness, rollout, and performance tracking.
- Monitor and assess compensation plan effectiveness; provide insights and actionable recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Develop and administer sales contests and short-term incentive initiatives to complement core compensation plans.
- Create and maintain dashboards and reporting tools to track incentive compensation metrics and provide transparency to stakeholders.
- Ensure incentive plans and associated processes remain compliant with internal policies and external regulations.
- Continuously research and evaluate industry benchmarks and trends to ensure competitive positioning.
- Respond to inquires from the field and investigate incentive compensation-related issues, providing timely and effective resolution.
- Lead and develop one direct report, providing guidance, coaching, and support.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
- Develop compensation plans that attract, motivate, and retain top talent
- Analyze the effectiveness of compensation plans to ensure that the company is paying for performance
- Support the sales team by addressing questions about incentive reports
- Provide training sessions for variable compensation plan participants
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
- BA/BS in quantitative major (finance, business, mathematics, statistics) preferred
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, and experience with query tools (e.g., Power BI).
- Strong understanding of data modeling and data integration techniques.
- Experience with CRM, especially Salesforce
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- 7-10 years of experience in sales incentive compensation design, development, and administration
- 3-5 years of experience managing direct reports
- Significant experience with incentive compensation modeling and analytics in complex organization structures
SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills with proven ability to model and evaluate sales compensation plans.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels (of the organization)
- Experience in large, complex organizations with multiple sales divisions
- Proactive mindset that challenges the status quo and seeks continuous process improvement
- Ability to assess situations, evaluate options, and drive toward logical solutions
- Advanced time management and organizational skills; able to manage multiple projects and meet aggressive deadlines.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
SALARY RANGE
- $135,000 - $145,000 annually
