About the team/role: At WEX, we simplify the business of running a business. Our WEX Mobility solutions reduce complexity and help manage costs of benefits administration for our clients and partners. We are looking for passionate technologists, collaborators, and problem solvers to join our Mobility Technology team as we build the next generation of employer benefits solutions and services. As a Software Engineer on the WEX Technology team, you will work in a team that partners closely with Product Managers and customers to learn about the challenges employers face while navigating the competitive business landscape. You will design solutions that solve problems in ways our customers love and work for our business. You will build the highest quality software in the latest technologies and test-driven development practices. WEXpedition, our 18-month Engineering Development Program, focuses on providing future WEXpeditors with critical software engineering experience and business knowledge. The program includes robust assignments and mentorship, and offers a unique opportunity to gain broad exposure across a range of Software Engineering functions. Participants will develop a versatile skill set, build a strong network, and cultivate a comprehensive understanding of our dynamic business. This program is designed to provide early-career Software Engineers with hands-on experience across key technology domains at WEX. Participants will rotate through three critical business areas-Corporate Payments, Mobility, and OTR-gaining exposure to different technologies, teams, and challenges. Selected candidates will be required to relocate to Portland, Maine prior to their anticipated start date, and for the duration of the 18 month program. Once the 18 month program has been completed, you will be permitted to move to one of our hub locations throughout the United States. Selected candidates will also be required to work a hybrid schedule, with a minimum of 3 days per week being in-office for the entirety of the program. How you'll make an impact:
Collaborate with stakeholders to learn about our customers biggest challenges. Collaborate closely with Engineers, Designers, and Product Managers to design, build, and iterate on world-class product experiences, defining product scope and design. Measure, inspect, and drive decisions using data. Ownership for the entirety of your features; including API design, implementation, automated testing, and rollout. Hold yourself, and your teammates accountable to the standards of engineering and ethics that enables WEX to safely move billions of dollars in payments and allow our customers to trust us with their sensitive data. Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions. Build high availability and resilient systems which can scale quickly. Strengthen and drive our engineering process with TDD and BDD, Microservice and Vertical Slice Architectures. Develop and execute against both short- and long-term roadmaps, make effective technical trade-offs that consider business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation. Support live applications, promote proactive monitoring, rapid incident response, and continuous improvement. Analyze existing systems and processes to identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvements. Mentor and learn from your peers, fostering continuous learning within your team and organization. Learn our team's process and best practices, and apply them to given tasks with help from peers and your Manager. Partner with, and assist your peers on completing tasks. Focus on continuous learning of new technologies. Develop technical expertise in Corporate Payments and Mobility Products. Gain hands-on experience with automation and AI-driven solutions. Build cross-functional collaboration skills through team rotations. Apply learning to real-world challenges and propose innovative solutions.
Experience you'll bring:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field; with less than 1 year out of school. Must have viability to relocate to Portland, Maine. Work hybrid; at least 3 days per week in the office. Strong collaboration skills, can work across workstreams within your team and contribute to your peers' success. Have the ability to thrive on a high level of autonomy, and responsibility, and think of yourself as an entrepreneur. Proficiency in at least one server-side language and an enthusiasm to learn others. Our engineers have all kinds of backgrounds and are encouraged to move freely across our technology stack. An appreciation for the connection between the software you build and the experience it delivers to customers. Passionate about keeping up with modern technologies and design. The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
