Please note that this position is contingent upon the successful award of a contract currently under bid. Goldbelt Professional Services specializes in providing expert resources for Public Health missions including scientific, technical, and administrative support from junior staff to high-level subject matter experts. Research and data driven, Goldbelt Professional Services' experts create solutions customized to the client's needs. Summary: The Bioinformatician II will be responsible for the analysis and interpretation of complex biological data using computational and statistical methods. This role involves working with large-scale data sets to identify patterns and trends, developing bioinformatics tools, and contributing to research that supports the mission of the Division of Viral Diseases (DVD) in preventing disease, disability, and death from viral diseases. This position is located Atlanta, GA with partial remote work.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Analyze and interpret biological data using computational and statistical methods to support research findings and public health recommendations.
- Develop and implement bioinformatics tools and software applications to solve problems in the field of genomics and viral diseases.
- Collaborate with researchers and scientists to design computational strategies for a wide range of biological research projects.
- Provide training on bioinformatics-related concepts, applications, and tools to researchers and scientists.
- Implement quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of collected data.
- Record and document findings in detailed reports and present results to colleagues, stakeholders, and at scientific conferences.
- Initiate interdisciplinary collaborations with other centers or departments to enhance research capabilities.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest scientific research and advancements in bioinformatics and viral diseases.
Qualifications
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or related field with 4+ years of experience; or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or related field.
- Ability to pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant certifications are a plus.
