About the Role

This is an exciting role that will report directly to the President of Reuters. The successful hire will be responsible for managing our partnership with LSEG Thomson Reuters largest customer.

Thomson Reuters entered into a 30-year News License Agreement for $325m per annum in 2018 with Refinitiv. Refinitiv is Thomson Reuters former Financial & Risk business, a majority interest in which was sold to a Blackstone consortium in October 2018. Thomson Reuters and Blackstone's consortium subsequently agreed to sell Refinitiv to London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) in August 2019 and the sale closed in January 2021.

The role is accountable for leading our engagement with LSEG working with Reuters Editorial and commercial teams and, where relevant, wider Thomson Reuters.Working closely with the Global Editor, Financial News Strategy, the overall remit for this role is to ensure the success of the Reuters and LSEG relationship, driving the development and execution of Reuters' strategy to meet LSEG and Reuters aligned objectives.

The Head of Financial News Strategy & LSEG Partnership will be a key member of the executive leadership team. The individual will be expected to lead a small dedicated LSEG Partnership team and leverage the wider Reuters organization to develop and execute our strategy, manage the overall relationship, and grow our partnership.

KeyResponsibilities:

Manage and maintain relationships

  • Ensure that LSEG and LSEG's customers are delighted with the service provided under the partnership
  • Build and leverage executive level relationships to drive engagement and strategic alignment with Reuters and Thomson Reuters. Ensure Reuters and Thomson Reuters executives and others understand LSEG needs; address over short- and long-term
  • Manage the matrixed functions within Reuters needed to establish and maintain highly effective cross functional team to deliver against the agreed strategy and operational plans
  • Collaborate effectively across Reuters, agree on prioritization of opportunities with relevant colleagues and take responsibility for driving progress on the strategy and coordinating relevant touchpoints
  • Work closely with LSEG and Reuters product team to develop, sell and launch new products and services for LSEG
  • Engage with the Reuters executive team on the broader Reuters strategy, allocation of resources and organizational culture development.
  • Manage a small direct team to support the above activities and whose responsibilities will include
    • Consolidation, maintenance, tracking, and reporting of all relevant information, performance activities, and other deliverables / touchpoints across Reuters and LSEG in partnership with the Data, Editorial and other teams as required
    • Management and maintenance of the processes in place to ensure ongoing Reuters compliance with the News License Agreement for the sale of Reuters products and services to new and grandfathered exception customers with the Reuters Sales and Commercial Operations teams to ensure compliance

Develop strategic and operational plans

  • Lead and drive a shared vision and accountability across the organization to ensure the success of the relationship
  • Drive the overall strategy and operational plans to ensure the success of the partnership
  • Determine, interpret, and communicate LSEG strategy and the role of Reuters in support and execution of LSEG strategy, including but not limited to the key products in which Reuters news is distributed
  • Interpret emerging economic, market and competitive trends for Financial News and in the markets in which LSEG operates and plans to operate in
  • Identify and develop investment proposals and/or acquisition targets for organic and inorganic opportunities for Reuters to invest and/or co-invest to support the partnership

Effectively drive business performance

  • Maximise the potential of the partnership in terms of the long-term revenue growth, margin and bottom-line efficiencies, by making optimal use of the business' assets and resources
  • Enable budgeted revenues to be delivered by ensuring that the services provided to LSEG within and in addition to the News License Agreement can sustain planned revenues
  • Ensure that the partnership receives effective support from the Reuters Editorial and Commercial teams and other functions as required, working with the rest of the Reuters Executive and Thomson Reuters leadership teams where required
  • Develop plans and initiatives for Reuters to serve and grow our partnership with LSEG including, but not limited to entering agreements for new and additional Reuters services, co-investments and renewal of existing additional services agreements with LSEG (e.g. co-marketing, technology and bespoke content services)
  • Support the delivery of total Reuters financial and business objectives and ensure the appropriate management of costs, where appropriate
About You

You are a fit for the Head of Financial News Strategy & LSEG Partnership if you possess the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree (MBA, JD/LLB, MA/MS, MEng etc.) preferred
  • 10 - 15 years of progressively more responsible business leadership experience with proven success and experience in a similar function including sales, business development and managing large customer relationships
  • Resourceful and highly organized self-starter with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and operate successfully in a complex, dynamic, fast paced, highly collaborative, matrixed and continuously evolving environment
  • Entrepreneurial spirit; ability to thrive amidst ambiguity and adapt to shifting circumstances and proven ability to develop and execute innovative strategies
  • Exceptional strategic relationship account management and consultative sales skills across multiple sectors / segments with a focus on growing the size of each account; success in direct and / or virtual leadership of global teams, in particular across multiple geographies and business lines
  • Excellent communication skills and experience presenting to senior executives, possessing the gravitas and credibility to drive the broader business agenda
  • Skilled at conflict resolution and problem-solving to achieve win-win outcomes
  • Experience and proven success at leading complex, strategic negotiations, and delivery on subsequent agreements
  • Ability to develop and manage relationships with complex, large global accounts
  • Strong C-suite engagement skills and track record
  • Strong operational and analytical abilities
  • Global experience: lived in / worked across multiple markets
  • Hands-on leader that sets an example to others

Additional preferred qualifications include:

  • Existing knowledge of LSEG products, the markets and competitive environment it operates within, and competitor products
  • Existing knowledge of the Financial News market and the Media industry

Location:

This is a hybrid role that can be based in one of our hub locations in Zug, Switzerland; Toronto, Canada; or New York, USA. Preference will be given to candidates based in Switzerland or willing to relocate to Switzerland.
