Summary

Provides engineering support 75% of the time to the production area to maintain optimum levels of productivity in terms of cycle times and quality and 25% towards IPC training and maintaining workmanship certifications for the organization. Coordinating the transition of new programs from Prototype to Production by preparing detailed work instructions and developing new production processes. Partners with design engineers throughout the design process from concept to prototype, in order to ensure maximum production efficiency. Contributes to the preparation of the annual capital expenditure plan for the selection and purchase of new production equipment. Work closely with other TTM divisions to identify potential vertical integration opportunities and support the annual intern program.

Essential Duties

  • Provides an advanced level of engineering support to the production area on routine issues to maintain optimum levels of productivity in terms of cycle times and quality.
  • Identifies and defines specific problems based on direct observation, analysis of production reports, or verbal reports from production personnel.
  • Investigates the cause of problems by researching drawings, inspecting tools, reviewing operation sheets, and accounting for other variables such as operator training.
  • Resolves problems by taking appropriate action, such as issuing new engineering change notices, revising operation sheets, contacting vendors on sub-standard parts, or ordering new tools.
  • Prepares reports as required to document problems addressed.
  • Coordinates the introduction of new, routine assembly processes on to the production floor.
  • Prepares operation sheets that describe the sequence and tasks required to complete fairly routine steps in the production process.
  • Interprets engineering drawings of assemblies and sub-assemblies and organizes the production process into a logical and efficient series of tasks.
  • Defines the need for specialized tools and provides specifications to purchasing.
  • Designs jigs and holding fixtures and prepares drawings for these for the machine shop.
  • Maintains control of all specialized tools and keeps track of revisions.
  • Participates in continuous process improvement to maximize cost savings utilizing Lean Techniques.
  • Monitors Touch Labor Costs with respect to program budgets to achieve cost effectiveness and meet delivery schedule.
  • Updates and improves operation sheets based on feedback from the production floor and engineering change notices issued.
  • Generates computerized travel tags including operation sequence and standard time.
  • Partners with design engineers throughout the design process from concept to prototype in order to ensure that maximum production efficiency (producibility) is engineered into the product design.
  • Offers suggestions and recommendations on issues that will affect cycle time and quality.
  • Reviews and approves final engineering drawings.
  • Participates in presentations to customers and management.
  • Coordinates customer audits of production documentation and processes by conducting tours and producing records for auditors.
  • Composes, updates, and maintains standard operating procedures covering production floor processes.
  • Acts as a technical consultant to suppliers to help them resolve manufacturing problems with regard to the parts they are producing for TTM. Analyzes and investigates problems, recommends solutions.
  • Contributes to the preparation of the annual capital expenditure plan, which involves reviewing projects in process, evaluating the age and condition of existing production equipment, and evaluating the value of new technologies.
  • Researches to estimate the cost of new equipment and develops options.
  • Assists management in the preparation of capital expense requests (CER) by defining specifications for the new equipment, identifying multiple sources for the equipment, providing details on available options with related costs, and completing a return-on-investment analysis.
  • Develops facilities layouts and provides these to the Facilities Department to support the installation of new equipment.
  • Conducts training classes on electro-static discharge protection, soldering, and other production skills. Evaluates trainees and takes action to resolve skill deficiencies. Develops and modifies the content of skill training. Determines the sequence and content of learning. Learns and teaches classes to assist employees in successfully achieving IPC certification. Manage schedule to maintain expiration dates for all employees.
  • Attends professional seminars and other TTM facilities to maintain a professional awareness of emerging trends and technologies.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • 5-8 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with military electronics, defense manufacturing or electro-mechanical manufacturing and knowledge of IPC-610, IPC-620, or J-STD-001 a plus.
  • Must be willing to obtain company funded IPC Trainer Certification to assist employees in learning and securing IPC Certifications.
  • Some domestic travel required.

Compensation and Benefits:

TTM offers a variety of health and well-being benefit programs. Benefits are available on the 1st of the month following date of hire. For some positions, only PTO and holiday benefits are offered.

Compensation ranges for roles at TTM Technologies varies depending on a wide array of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At TTM Technologies, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on each individual set of circumstances. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:

Additional compensation: An annual or quarterly company bonus may apply based on position assignment. Positions hired for alternative shift may be eligible for a shift premium based on the assigned shift and location.
