Geffen Academy teachers seek to create trusting and caring relationships with their students and with their larger community. Summary Geffen Academy seeks a Mathematics teacher able to teach a variety of math courses for students in grades 6-12. The curriculum is based on the traditional textbooks as well as on the AoPS (Art of Problem Solving) textbooks, such as Introduction to Geometry, Intermediate Algebra, Intermediate Counting and Probability. Calculus and some other advanced courses at Geffen Academy will closely resemble the corresponding courses given at the UCLA Department of Mathematics. A successful candidate should either be familiar with the above content or willing and able to quickly become effectively well versed in it. Geffen Academy is looking for people who find studying and teaching mathematics to the next generation self-rewarding, just as studying math is self-rewarding for research mathematicians. We are looking for people interested in applying math as a tool kit to other areas of human knowledge, from physics to computer science to economics and finance to history and literature, in close cooperation with students, other teachers, and faculty members of the UCLA Department of Mathematics. We are looking for people who believe that solid mathematics education is beneficial for every student and who are able and willing to work with the students of varying math backgrounds. A successful candidate should have a Master's degree in a math-related field and a strong background in either secondary or university education with a clear understanding and embrace of the Geffen Academy's mission, vision, and values; a record of outstanding success as an educator; excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to articulate and explain instructional issues to colleagues, students, and their families; must be self-directed and able to effectively prioritize and handle multiple tasks subject to frequent interruption; must be capable of developing and sustaining close, effective working relationships with colleagues in the department and from other parts of UCLA and Geffen Academy on matters of interdisciplinary and institutional concern. Experience in a variety of instructional and co-curricular/extra-curricular roles within a secondary school is a plus. Application Requirements Document requirements
