Summary/Objective:

New Product Development Engineer will focus on new product development and aid in maintaining existing products. Primary responsibility will be to develop products to specific external customer specifications from concept stage to production-ready. In addition, support of existing production products through VAVE and Continuous Improvement efforts will be required. Working closely with an internal cross-functional team as well as external customers and suppliers will be essential.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  • * Innovate new products for evaluation by marketing, sales, engineering, manufacturing and management
  • * Layout and design of new products utilizing CAD (Creo & AutoCAD)
  • * Create test plan, provide documentation, and oversee testing of new products and concepts
  • * Generate and maintain part drawings & BOMs and assist with procurement of parts and supplies needed for construction of new products
  • * Provide necessary documentation to R&D technicians to allow them to fabricate product model for testing
  • * Research new materials for both new and existing products
  • * Estimate costs of implementing new materials, systems and technologies and their potential cost savings and/or opportunities for market share growth
  • * Provide necessary technical documentation to prototype and tooling departments
  • * Recommend changes in designs to comply with product feasibility studies
  • * Assist manufacturing engineering and production in development of new processes
  • * Some hands-on work required (machining, fabricating, assembly, etc)
  • * Occasional travel to boat shows, customers, and vendors

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily working indoors, office environment.
  • May sit for several hours at a time.
  • Prolonged exposure to computer screens.
  • Repetitive use of hands to operate computers, printers, and copiers.
  • Travel to customer or other Lippert facilities may be required
  • Floor time at customers or other Lippert facilities may be required which may include walking, kneeling, crouching, sitting, standing

Qualifications:

  • Computer Skills: Advanced skill level in CAD software, preferably Creo and AutoCAD; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

  • Organization Skills: Ability to handle and work on multiple tasks at the same time

  • Cross-functional team skills: Work with and effectively communicate with other departments including Sourcing, Tooling, QA, NPD Engineering and Manufacturing

  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate within a team setting; ability to maintain a professional & pleasant demeanor

  • Physical, Mental and Visual Skills: Ability to analyze information to solve complex problems and to maintain attention to detail and accuracy

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position, and the expected work hours are 40+ hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Travel:

Infrequent travel to customers and other Lippert plants.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field or equivalent experience in an engineering R&D position
  • 5-10+ years of experience in a R&D engineering or similar position
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (preferably Creo)
  • Willing to relocate to within commuting distance of plant location
  • Working knowledge of electronics and controllers desirable
  • FEA experience desirable
  • Industrial design/concept sketching experience a plus

Salary-75,000-100,000 annually
