Essential Job Duties |
We are seeking a skilled
Roofer/Waterproofer to oversee a team in maintaining, repairing, and installing campus roofing and waterproofing systems.
This role ensures high-quality, responsive service while conducting inspections, performing repairs, and coordinating necessary adjustments based on site conditions. The ideal candidate has expertise in various roofing systems, waterproofing techniques, and general carpentry. Key responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:
Lead a team of trades workers, maintenance mechanics, and helpers in roofing and waterproofing projects. Inspect and evaluate roofing systems, making necessary adjustments based on site conditions. Perform preventative maintenance, repairs, and replacements on various roofing systems, including single-ply BUR, modified bitumen, metal, slate, and shingle roofs. Install and repair downspouts and ensure proper drainage functionality. Conduct waterproofing work above and below grade, including sealing control joints, resealing windows, and repairing or replacing membranes.- Utilize appropriate tools, materials, and techniques to ensure durable, high-quality repairs.
Review project plans and estimates for accuracy and feasibility, making adjustments as needed.- Assist other trades as required to support campus maintenance and repair efforts.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and best practices in roofing and waterproofing.

Other Responsibilities |
- Perform journey level work in waterproofing buildings above and below grade, patching roofs, replacing and repairing downspouts, asphalt and concrete repairs.
- This position has been designated as essential personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor.
- Knows and functions in at least one other trade and possesses general knowledge of others. Assist other trades as required.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Must be able to communicate effectively verbally with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.
- Experience with maintenance and repairing of roofs.
- Experience in waterproofing buildings above and below grade level.
- Ability to operate aerial lifts.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience in waterproofing buildings above and below grade, sealing building envelopes, repairing roofs, and performing asphalt and concrete repairs.

Required License or Certification |
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must be able to obtain a valid NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
