Essential Job Duties |
Join our team at the Randall B. Terry Jr. Companion Animal Medical Center as an
Internal Medicine Veterinary Technician, where you'll provide essential care and coordination for patients in the Internal Medicine department. This service delivers advanced care for patients needing diagnosis and treatment for various health issues.
In this role, you will maintain a
clean, safe, and organized environment while performing physically active tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds, working with animals and potentially hazardous materials, and assisting with complex procedures. You will work closely with veterinarians, students, interns, and residents in a fast-paced, teaching environment, providing
direct patient care, diagnostic support, and procedural assistance while ensuring high-quality outcomes and effective communication with clients and hospital personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with client check-in, patient admitting, scheduling, and updates.
- Maintain knowledge of patients' conditions, diagnostics, and care plans.
- Perform and support diagnostic tests and procedures, including anesthesia and blood work.
- Provide direct patient care, including vital monitoring, injections, IVs, bandaging, and NE tube care.
- Administer medications and fluids, including CRIs, pain management, and antibiotics.
- Deliver post-anesthesia and post-sedation care and monitor for disease conditions.
- Use specialized equipment and collaborate with diagnostic teams (CT, MRI, ultrasound, radiography).
- Train and mentor staff, students, interns, and residents; assist with billing and procedural documentation.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
Completion of an accredited training program in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Some positions may require additional Training, Certifications, or Licensure.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Previous clinical experience as a veterinary technician, preferably in a teaching hospital.
- Experience working with canine and feline patients.
- Knowledge of diagnostic procedures and treatment protocols in internal medicine.
- Ability to perform moderate-risk drug calculations and anesthesia support.
- Experience assisting with procedures and patient care in a fast-paced clinical or teaching environment.

Required License or Certification |
- Must be a NC Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or hold veterinary technician licensure/certification in another state and be eligible to obtain NC RVT licensure within 6 months of hire
- Graduation from an AVMA fully accredited two- or four-year Veterinary Technician program
