Overview

  • Requires a graduate of an accredited program
  • State license is required

Evaluates physical conditions and advises and treats athletes to maintain maximum physical fitness for participation in athletic competition by performing the following duties:


Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs assessment of injury or condition and takes appropriate follow up steps to ensure safe and proper care
  • Prescribes routine, preventive and corrective exercises to strengthen muscles, increase balance and improve flexibility
  • Provide practice, game/event coverage for assigned area
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide assessment, stabilization and first aid
  • Make recommendations for athletic participation and return to sport guidelines
  • Complete accurate documentation of assessment and referrals
  • Refer athletes to physician for continued care per protocol
  • Perform manual techniques and utilize taping and bracing to relieve symptoms and improve function
  • Collaborate with sports medicine providers, physicians and other allied health professionals
  • May work in a clinic setting with physician or under the direction of a physical therapist

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited school of Athletic Training

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Licensed as an athletic trainer in WI, IL or both if required

CPR/BLS required within 30 days of hire

BOC certification

Maintain a valid driver's license and reliable transportation with proof of vehicle insurance when requested

Have/maintain an acceptable driving record per Mercyhealth's HR-01-Fleet Safety policy

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Passing the Driver's License Check and/or Credit Check (for those positions requiring).

Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check.

Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
