The Indirect Underwriter II is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and underwriting auto loan applications while mitigating risk through sound credit decisions. This role ensures compliance with company policies and regulatory guidelines, balancing risk management with business growth objectives. The Underwriter II consistently meets established daily production goals while operating within prescribed loan limits.
Here's what you can expect from the job and what you need to be successful:
Job Duties:
  • Apply independent judgment that aligns with credit union policy, guidelines, tolerances and in adherence to regulatory guidelines to reach a sound decision, mitigating loan risk for the credit union on all loan applications
  • Evaluate financial statements and tax returns
  • Handle escalated dealer calls
  • Conduct secondary reviews of loan files referred up by Level 1 Underwriters
  • Research and analyze applicant data as necessary to ensure mitigated risk
  • Provide adverse actions according to proper regulatory guidelines
  • Perform testing and validation of systems and processes during upgrades
  • Positively convey stipulations and decisions to dealers and members
  • Meet established production goals as set out for Underwriter II positions
  • Advise Processors and Loan Fulfillment Associates on underwriting questions
Essential Skills:
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in consumer lending underwriting; or one year Level 1 underwriting experience at First Tech
  • Analytical skills with the ability to calculate lending ratios, conduct loan risk analysis and properly identify credit issues, fraud and/or other associated lending risks
  • Strong business communication skills; able to write/speak clearly and professionally for a variety of audiences
  • Ability to work autonomously to manage time effectively and prioritize work appropriately to meet deadlines in a high-volume production environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to apply sound independent judgement
  • Comprehensive understanding of loan contracts including APR, amortization schedules, and simple interest calculations
  • Basic knowledge of credit union lending policy and lending regulations including Reg B, Reg Z, FACTA & FCRA, Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA)
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma; Bachelor's degree is preferred

Target Compensation in Hillsboro, OR: $34.50 to $37.00 + annual bonus
