Job Description

The Director, Petroleum Engineering, Investment Bankingis responsible for providing assistance with new business development, client relationships, management and execution of live transactions. They will have a particular focus on technical and valuation analysis. They are also responsible for resolving complex engineering and financial issues, performing industry, basin, and competitive analysis, and preparing client presentation materials.

How You'll Spend Your Time
  • You will assist with the development of new business activities across a variety of investment banking products with emphasis on sell-side A&D pitches.
  • You will perform independent research and studies relating to basin analysis (i.e., prepare oil and gas reservoir studies as needed and interpret available engineering data)
  • You will supervise, orient, and train the work performance of more junior technical personnel.
  • You will remain abreast of industry activity by reviewing well completion and drilling activity and by attending professional society meetings
  • You will perform technical evaluation of client oil & gas assets using industry-standard economics software (ARIES, and PHDWin) as well as commonly used software such as Excel, Access, and Spotfire.
  • You will lead the development of key marketing materials and execution of mandates including:
    • Data gathering, industry research, and analysis (Enverus)
    • Economic modeling (i.e. developing type-curves, production volume forecasting, LOS analysis, plant statement/commercial assumptions review, inventory evaluation, etc.)
    • Preparing upstream volume and cash flow forecasts supporting DCF models
    • Participating in client reviews (i.e. review of PDP forecasts, type curves, LOS model, etc.)
    • Populating and managing virtual data rooms
    • Creating Confidential Information Memorandums/data room presentations
Education & Experience Requirements

The required level of knowledge is normally acquired through a Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum Engineering and 10+ years' experience in oil and gas industry at an Investment Bank; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred: PE Certification.

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of oil and gas production and terminology.
  • Extensive knowledge of oil and gas economics within an Investment Bank with exposure and involvement in acquisitions and divestitures
  • Extensive knowledge of petroleum economics software analysis (i.e. PHDWin 3.0 preferred and Aries)
  • Thorough knowledge of commercial on-line data bases (i.e. IHS)
  • High-level understanding of producing and development field economics
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to meet with clients, prepare written reports, and generate presentations, as needed
  • Excellent PC skills including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet applications and databases
