About the Job

The Neuromodulation Research Center (NMRC) seeks an experienced and driven researcher to join its interdisciplinary team working in the University of Minnesota Department of Neurology. This position will support the NMRC's ongoing research in deep brain stimulation (DBS) to provide therapeutic relief for those living with movement disorders: chiefly, Parkinson's disease. The successful candidate will collect electrophysiological data from behaving NHP in support of a number of ongoing projects. That person will deploy their expansive skill sets to make improvements to research infrastructure and process elicited data for ready analysis by senior researchers. The Research Technician will act as a SME on experiment set-up, troubleshooting, and the creation of accurate documentation.

Job Responsibilities:

70% Data Collection
-Collect electrophysiological data from behaving NHP according to established experiment parameters. Deliver consistent results across multiple projects.
-Ensure upload, duplication, and ease of access of collected data by relevant stakeholders
-Complete animal welfare checks in coordination with senior researchers and assist with routine veterinary care as needed to support experiments
-Pre-process data using a multiplicity of software packages for later analysis

20% Research Infrastructure Support
-Coordinate with and assist research engineers on the design implementation of novel research devices
-Use CAD software to machine or 3D print miscellany in concert with research engineers
-Improve and implement MATLAB data analysis code

10% Publications, Conferences, Posters
-Prepare graphics, tables, charts, or other writings for publication in academic journals or as posters in concert with senior researchers

Qualifications

Required Qualification:
-BA/BS in neuroscience, BME, ME, ECE or similar field OR a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least four years
-Experience with Solidworks, MATLAB or similar software
-Experience conducting scientific experiments
-Effective communicator both verbally and in writing.
-Ability to follow written SOPs and follow-through on complex tasks and timelines

Preferred Qualification:
-Familiarity with the pathology and treatment of Parkinson's disease or other movement disorders
-Hands-on experience working with research animals
-Experience collecting electro/neurophysiological data from an animal population, particularly NHP
-Experience with 3D printing or machining for research.

Pay Range: $20/hr - $27.17/hr; depending on education/qualifications/experience
