About the Job
Department of Surgery (DOS, https://med.umn.edu/surgery) at the University of Minnesota is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to join a team working on multiple research projects in the field of integrative -omics and biomarker discovery in the Division of Computational Health Sciences (CHS) at the DOS. The position is an annually renewable professional academic appointment.

About the Division
Division of Computational Health Sciences in DOS is a division which focuses on development of novel data science methods to analyze biomedical big data for advancing health care (https://med.umn.edu/surgery/divisions/computational-health-sciences).

Duties/Responsibilities:
* Conduct data analyses on various health and biomedical projects
* Assist with project development including literature review, study design and experiment conduction as needed
* Work independently on projects with general supervision
* Design and/or implement analytical methods, summarize findings, and generate study results for research topics
* Write, edit or critique technical reports and/or publications describing research results
* Communicate and present analytical results to researchers, faculty, and other academic professionals in associated fields of expertise (e.g. paper, poster, and/or oral presentations)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
* A Ph.D. degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biomedical/Health Informatics, Computer Science, Biostatistics, Data Science, or a related technical field.
* Strong programming skills in Python, R, etc.
* Expertise in -omics analyses
* Excellent writing and communication skills
* Highly motivated, ability to identify potential problems and develop solutions.
* Able to work collaboratively with a diverse group of research scientists with different skill sets and expertise
* Able to adapt analytical tools to a variety of health-related scientific questions

Preferred Qualifications:
* Research experience in predictive modeling and/or longitudinal datasets
* Expertise in deep learning, reinforcement learning, transfer learning, data visualization
* Experience with mentoring trainees
* Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to changing needs
* Strong experience with peer-reviewed publications
* Familiarity with any of the following concepts: sepsis, critical illness, severe injury, inflammation, immunity, pancreatitis

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $61,008 minimum; depending on education/qualifications/experience
