Technical Content and Instructional Engineer

The Opportunity:

The Technical Content and Instructional Engineer will own the technical documentation portfolio for our platform and evangelize content standards across our team. They will be responsible for creating simplified user content, including user and administration guides, software API documentation, in-person training, video-based tutorials, technical notes, product UI text, and other technical content as needed. Formats will primarily be web-based documents and video tutorials. This individual will often be the face of our "customer success culture" and collaborate across our development team and several customer delivery teams.

A successful candidate must be self-motivated and able to design and clearly communicate objectives and progress against those objectives. They will bring demonstrated skills collaborating with a diverse group of people, including hardware and software engineers, test engineers, product managers, and system administrators. Candidates should enjoy working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, and be prepared to take ownership of this aspect of the team.

You Have:

  • Experience creating web-based end-user materials for complex systems and software such as user guides, administrator guides, and training materials
  • Experience with front-end web development languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Knowledge of a "Docs as Code" model of documentation such as Markdown, MkDocs, Jira, BitBucket, Python, and SaltStack
  • Ability to present training and tutorials
  • Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in a CS, Digital Content Production, or Instructional Design field

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience working in an Agile Scrum Software Development Life-Cycle (SDLC) environment using tools such as Jira and GIT
  • Experience creating, integrating, and automating documentation artifacts using scripting technologies such as Python
  • Experience creating and editing screencast videos for training materials
  • Experience in web layouts and theming with MkDocs, Material for MkDocs, and PyMdown extensions
  • Experience with technical diagraming tools such as Omnigraffle, Draw.io, Visio, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Experience with languages, applications, or frameworks such as HTML5/CSS, Python, JavaScript, JQuery, Bootstrap, XML, JSON, or YAML
  • Knowledge of responsive user interface design
  • Ability to create and adhere to style guides for both written and graphic artifacts
  • Ability to apply 508 compliance standards
  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $84,600.00 to $193,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees.
