Overview
Installs, tests, maintains, and repairs operating systems and software configuration of all network infrastructure devices to include routers, switches, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, intrusion prevention systems, and network management platforms. This position may be filled as a Level II, III or IV. Additional responsibilities and qualifications apply.
Responsibilities
Level III additional responsibilities:
- Ensures that network connections are online and active utilizing network management tools and processes and plays a key role in maintaining the network management platforms.
- Troubleshoots and resolves data network communications problems utilizing accurate techniques and accurately documents all changes and incidents in the Incident Management and Change Management Systems.
- Maintains correct and accurate documentation of existing and future network infrastructure utilizing accurate tools and systems and performs network management tasks for proper scanning and documentation of the environment.
- Assists the network architect and network manager in the design and implementation of network projects and infrastructure to include MPLS, QOS, IPS, Firewall, and security parameters.
- May coordinate work and performance of sub-contractors to ensure compliance with work orders and performs mentoring of Network Engineer I and II.
- Performs network maintenance and security related tasks such as coordinating cable contractors, upgrading IOS, NXOS, implementing security related policies, patches, firewall, VPN appliances, and other systems.
Level IV additional responsibilities:
- Leadership Skills, Strong analytical skills, coupled with a sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
Qualifications
- Technical or vocational school or equivalent
- Broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems
- Knowledge of network protocols, such as EIGRP, BGP, and OSPF
- Ability to trouble shoot difficult network problems using available tools and software
- Ability to communicate to network associates on how to solve problems, work with network providers, PC hardware personnel and communications equipment vendors to resolve network problems or requests.
- Experience with Cisco router, switches, and Fortinet firewalls
- Applied knowledge of TCP/IP, IPsec, VRRP, HSRP, or SNMP protocols preferred
- Applied knowledge of Cisco Catalysts switches preferred
Level III additional qualifications:
- Broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems to include routers, switches, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, intrusion prevention systems, and network management platforms.
- Minimum of 3 years of Cisco routing and switching in an Enterprise environment
- Advanced knowledge of network protocols, routers, and switches and the ability to utilize sniffers and other diagnostic equipment to resolve issues
- Advanced knowledge of MPLS networks, quality of service parameters
- Experience in an equivalent size organization as a network engineer III.
- Experience with QOS, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP
- Experience with IDS/IPS
- Experience with IPSEC/SSL VPN
- Experience with Firewalls
- AS or BS Degree preferred
- CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent certification preferred
Level IV additional qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of Cisco routing and switching in an Enterprise environment
- Experience in an equivalent size organization as a network engineer III or higher
