I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Creates atmosphere conducive for learners to learn and to practice in accordance with Standards of Nursing Practice.
2. Collaborates with nursing leadership and other members of the interprofessional team in defining nursing standards, practices, and educational needs of patient and nursing staff.
3. Conducts an educational needs assessment for area(s) of responsibility on a regular basis.
4. Facilitates the orientation of new nursing hires by maintaining an environment that is conducive to learning.
5. Monitors the progress of the orientee's learning experience and completion of orientation objectives through regular meetings with the preceptor and orientee.
6. Implements and evaluates in-service, and continuing education programs for staff in assigned areas.
7. Develops competency level of nursing staff with patients and patient populations managed on assigned unit(s).
8. Implements curricula, instructional strategies, tests, and evaluation tools, and maintains current educational supplies and equipment. Recommends changes to the curricula based on feedback and current clinical and/or educational evidence.
9. Applies evidence-based educational methods and technologies that support development of nursing expertise.
10. Assures that staff meets required competencies, both annual and unit based, for area of practice.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related healthcare field.
2. Currently holds an active RN license in the State of Massachusetts
Preferred:
1. Master's Degree in Nursing or related healthcare field.
Experience/Skills:

Required:
1. Must have at least 3 years of clinical nursing experience with at least 1 year experience in clinical preceptor and/or charge nurse role.
2. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation computer software.
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
4. Position requires frequent use of the computer, keyboard and printer; educational equipment such as teaching manikins, simulators, LCD projectors, etc.; and reading of printed materials.

Preferred:
1. Experience in teaching highly desired.
2. Process improvement experience.

ADDENDUM FOR NURSING PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE GENERALIST IN AMBULATORY

Position Summary

Responsible and accountable for UMass Memorial Health Care Ambulatory Clinics, Community Medical Group clinics, and Medical Group clinics' Medical Office Assistant's (MOAs) onboarding, professional development, and ongoing competency. Includes assessment, planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating staff educational activities to meet a variety of regulatory standards and quality outcomes. Assures the quality of patient care delivered in assigned clinics through the assessment and development of the nursing staff. Participates in the development and implementation of educational programs for Ambulatory and the Nursing Department.

Reports to Manager, Ambulatory Professional Practice.

I. Major Responsibilities

1. Responsible for the management and delivery of ambulatory apprenticeship programs.

2. Supports MOAs credentialing process as onsite liaison with credentialing programs.

3. Assures that staff meets required competencies, both annual and clinic based, for area of practice.

4. Coordinates MOA externships with local academic programs.

5. Facilitates MOA Career Ladder in partnership with Human Resources.

6.May assist with interview/hiring process of Medical Office Assistants and other staff.

Additional Experience/Skills:

Preferred:

1. Previous experience in an Ambulatory practice.
